My cat's cat :( I tried to pick him up because he was freaking out about maintenance guys showing up and I was trying to put him in another room and he bit the absolute crap out of me
Err, if it's a puncture just go to urgent care to start the IV drip. Better than waiting till it starts traveling up your arm and they have to put you under to scrape the necrotic tissue.
Yikes! That looks painful! I was at the doctor today and was diagnosed with “cat scratch disease” bc one of my lymph nodes was swollen. But that was my only symptom. I’m now on an antibiotic. Mine is so small, thankfully. Hope yours heals fast!
Oh it's not really that bad, just red and swollen with a pair of puncture wounds in the middle. If you were a combat medic you saw worse six times before breakfast
Get thee to the dr for updated tetanus and some antibiotics! Fmr vet tech here, seen it MANY times..it does NOT take much to end up needing surgical debridement, nerve damage or other horrors-have to open it,scrub it with chlorhex, topical abx,and KEEP it open to drain-(BUT YES I WANT TO SEE)
Don't worry!! I already did the thing! I am currently chock full of augmentin and a tetanus shot 🥰 I should have led with that! I'm causing people undue stress
May sound weird, but the most gratifying wound care to me is the lance, drain, flush of an abscess- cat on cat bites being the “juiciest”. Of course I HATE when animals are sick/in pain-but once they are drained they feel better,so its a win win! *though its always better when they are sedated for it!
Tagged it with "graphic." I got care for it already but the bite happened yesterday afternoon and I woke up like "ohhhh shit time for urgent care" when I saw how fast it went like this
That's great to know though. I'm glad I took precautions but if I have a low key allergy causing that crazy swelling and redness I'm worrying slightly less next time
Having been bitten once by a kitten, I’m amazed at how quickly those bites from those cute little things get nasty! I got bit in the fleshy part between my thumb and forefinger, and within a few hours couldn’t bend my fingers or my wrist, my hand was swelling so fast.
I was on IV antibiotics that evening, and then pills for the next week or so. They drew a line around my arm where the swelling had reached and said as long as the swelling was receding I was fine but if it crossed that line to get to the ER right away.
Ouch. Glad you kept your arm and your life.
A family member has been bitten by our cats several times. She didn't want urgent care after the last bite, so I got a sharpie and outlined the red. Next morning we're at urgent care and the doctor sees the sharpie and says "I see you've done this before."
Cat bites should always be urgent care pretty much. Those little needle teeth go deeeep and such narrow puncture wounds are real dang tricky to clean sufficiently.
It’s cool that cat bites and scratches are always either “nothing to worry about” or “you need intense antibiotics or you could lose a limb” and you can’t tell the difference until like 24 hours after.
Oof! Good thing you got it taken care of. My spouse had a good one once and they gave her the wrong antibiotic first. She went back for the proper drugs after literally watching the infection move up her wrist in real time 😬
A few months ago I saw someone’s post about why even big predators will avoid angry cats. The cat is making a promise: you might kill me, but I will claw your softest, most sensitive body part and give you a life-threatening infection. The cost-benefit analysis works out in the cat’s favour 😉
Augmentin! And a tetanus booster as it turns out I hadn't had one since 2007, which was incidentally the last time a cat bit me like this (volunteering with veterinarians to do spay-neuter clinics in Tijuana, you should have heard the USC doctors when I explained what had happened)

Now that I'd gotta see.
Glad you're alright, btw!!
Is that [noun-verb] or is it [adjective-noun]?
not really , but they happen without malice, but by nature. glad you know the care from that .
not what you replied with . but thank you for the information .

what kind of piercing is that?
if the former, sure, me! if the latter, no, i would rather see your antibiotics
Glad you got it seen to!

Glad you got treated quickly!
Wanna see?
2. I blame you for making a Ted Nugent song inhabit my brainspace. (I won't hold a grudge about it, but still! Rude!)
Which treatment did they end up going with?
Cat bites can be super nasti
:(
