friendly reminder that the best case scenario over the coming years is that a lot of people say "I supported Trump but this isn't what I wanted at all" and when they do that it's gonna be really, really important that we say "welcome in," not "fuck you, we told you so"

We have the case of the real world Nazis as case study. East Germany did purges and terror. It's the stronghold of the AfD now. West Germany did performative reconciliation and a lot of lying while holding the leaders accountable. It has some of the lowest Nazi counts on the planet.

That's literally not true. This is ahistorical. AfD support is highest in places where a scorched earth tactic was used and lowest in places where the tactic being advocated was used.
