I know this line probably stressed you out the most Gary, but it's one of the best bits of this interview. 100% spot on! Being Entrepreneurial is great and all, but it's also got an element of the selfishness that you talked about in one of your YouTube vids.
Those two entrepreneur shills are so biased and don't want to pay tax. Gary provoked them into showing how blatant they were about that. Thank you Gary it does cause bloody mental illness and very low male self esteem, so much they also will buy into negative media lies. Blame media not young men.
And even if you have enough savings to gamble into a startup, it usually takes a couple years to really earn a living from it, IF it's successful. The numbers are against you:
90% of startups fail, and 20% do so within the first year.
I'm part way through @georgemonbiot.bsky.social book The Invisible Doctrine & Daniel is classic neoliberalism - "free markets (which is bullshit) & just be more entrepreneurial..." It makes me so mad! (I've been self employed 30+yrs working my ass off, how dare he!
"Be more entrepreneurial" is just the same as saying "You're just lazy and that's why you're poor." EAT THE RICH. The revolution is coming and there's a lot more of us than there is of them...
I agree with you Gary but the problem is also that capital is global and capitalist move money around to shell companies, to tax havens to avoid tax responsibilities, as I know you know. What can we do about that?
I'm a psychologist/psychotherapist. You're so spot on, it's incredibly important this stuff gets said. It IS sick, and it DOES cause mental health problems, as it victim blames people for something they have no fault in and no power over.
its too late, of all this non-sence, im now in debt and i wasn't before, council tax want 2K a from us on a £900 a month Payslip and on UC benafits, i swore to my self i would not be like my perents and be in debt, and now im in debt and it isn't my fault i would rather kill my self then deal this.
"Work harder and spend the money to create a business" when you're already working ten hour days at a job plus taking care of your family and barely have enough money to pay the rent
You are right. We are mental health professionals, and it is so important that this gets said. Blaming people for poverty does create mental health issues, as it is victim blaming people for something they have no control over.
Exactly, hard graft is all well and good, but there needs to be some reward. Business success isn't thanks to hard work now, or even luck. Its have rich parents or bullshitting your stock-price up, and borrowing money off the back of it.
Rich people always underestimate how external factors to their own selves have contributed to their fortunes. When Obama said “you didn’t build that” even poor people in the U.S. got offended.
Entrepreneurship is a numbers game. A few succeed, but most fail. And startups require seed capital and other resources that the rich have in abundance, but others can barely scrape together.
So the rich get multiple shots on goal, getting experience each time, while the middle class gets one try.
Telling people to be more entrepreneurial is a way to distance from social responsibility and the idea we are all helped a little (and maybe held back a bit) in society/our communities.
Also if we were all entrepreneurs who would be the workers/carers etc?
Love your work Gary. Been on the Jameson's at the end of the week so not ashamed to say I fuckin love you man. Reading your book(I'm a very slow reader)(alright, stop fuck laughing) Please never give up, I'm gonna up my game, I already have. Keep dishing out hope bro ✊
Gary, you lit a fire underneath me. Watching that debate helped open my eyes and mind even more than it was. The passion and no BS is what really stood out. I very much appreciate what you're doing, and I know nothing will get done if WE don't do anything.
Billionare Tom Steyer (professional investor) is also explaining why we should tax the rich more in recent video as a guest: https://youtu.be/wkiO0_uSJAk?feature=shared&t=406 Maybe you guys could connect somehow?
Honestly 90% of my personal success has been luck, social class, and white male privilege. The other 10% is hard work, attitude etc but I doubt I'd be anywhere without the first 90%. So many 'success' stories forget this.

Tax the rich or we'll get rid of them.
There are so many low paid yet vital roles, that really make a difference in our communities. What use is a country of entrepreneurs without them?

I think they’re deaf until misfortune comes for them.
