Respectfully disagree that Demi was robbed - MM had so much to do in that film, was also very brave (that twerking/lap dance scene) a young and unknown actor - she carried that film, gave it so much heart and and the ending has stayed with me. Demi was bloody mighty though 🤩
Well if she didn't she's one messed up lady! I thought she was astonishingly raw and brutal I thought the acting was jaw dropping I was speechless in the cinema- I left feeling shaken like I'd just been on the scariest maddest rollercoaster and it's been a long time since that happened.
Moore has been underestimated for over 40 years and the guts and dedication it must have taken for her to play that role doesn't bear thinking about really.
The fact that Madison was nominated at all should have been enough at this stage in her career.
I so agree with this, this bloody horror doesn't count bollocks I hate it so many incredible actresses missed out before because of this as well, it was Demi's moment the Substance had me experiencing every emotion fear, disgust, sadness at times insane laughter it was all so surreal and brilliant.
I thought Anora was a good film but the substance was my film of the year it stays with you especially as a woman getting older and the industry that targets you with 'youthful serums' playing on your insecurities- It scared the hell outta me and I loved it.
It's an important subject but, for me, The Substance was a really poor movie despite DM's best efforts. I far preferred Anora and MM, though of course it's all down to personal raste.
What’s good about Anora? I thought it was too long, too slow, not dramatic or tense, only slightly amusing very occasionally, and all round pretty dull. I almost stopped watching, and can’t understand the love for it. Reasonable performances, I’d agree with.
The Substance is definitely flawed (I think it’d have been better had it not gone so OTT at the end) but much more deserving of recognition. More innovative and interesting in every way.
This is probably just me because I'm weird, I love dark shit so that ending was perfect to me, it was like Death becomes her (which I also adore) with the gloves off and it's the first time I've left a cinema wide awake in ages going omfg what the fuck was that followed by I absolutely loved it!
I think it was just a perfect satirical take on the grotesque beauty pagent culture and objectification of women covering them all in their slop they helped to build essentially. I laughed my head off but not because I didn't respect the choice moreover because it was so brave.
We had very very different reactions to that film. Once the early romance/endless shagging bit was over I was absolutely engrossed. And the final scene kinda broke me.

It makes no sense.
I’ve never taken much interest…
No need to take it any further 😊
