Would anyone in NW3, or thereabouts, like a free sofa? I love this sofa a great deal but it's just too large for our flat so we're getting a smaller one. I cannot emotionally accept the idea of it going to landfill.

When we lived in London we used to arrange the council to collect then put in the garden. We’d then get a knock on the door from someone who wanted it. Nothing was ever thrown away
Unfortunately only if the original fire safety certificate is on it. There doesn't seem much interest from charities for furniture now, which is a great shame.
can you donate it to an agency that serves low income or homeless people? That's what I did with my sister's furniture and kitchen appliances when she passed away. It went to an agency that gives household items to the homeless who are starting over.
I've had some success on https://www.freecycle.org/ in NW3 (shelves, coffee table and chairs). Like you though, I have an old sofa surplus to requirements.
I have some sad news about our similar looking (opposite reason for replacing) sofa that we tried to give away on Freecycle, Facebook Marketplace and to charity 🙁
I had the same problem. After over 20 years mine didn’t have a fire safety label so no charities would take it. And people already have their sofa. Mine was taken by my council in the end. 😕
Do they have St Rocco’s Hospices or Mustard Tree in London? If not, there must be a charity that’ll take it off your hands, provided it’s in decent nick.
I can give it a good home! I have an adorable Ukrainian cleaner who is here coz she fled the war and is living in an unfurnished house with no sofa. She would be incredibly grateful. As long as it will fit in the back of a Zipvan and will fit through a standard front door, then I’ll take it 🙏
That’s like my John Lewis one.
It was the most comfortable sofa ever.
It got a bit scruffy and I bought a corner sofa instead.
And I havnt stopped regretting it since.
Get it recovered? keep it and love it.
Good luck… and if anyone in Edinburgh wants an Edwardian rosewood double bed or a little 1930s walnut-veneer dressing-table, they’re available free as relatives wanting rid of them…
Please don't be embarrassed. We do get attached to things. I feel very attached to my front door. I know one day it'll be replaced by uPVC. I just think it'll be a sad day as it has so much history.
😊 I confess that it provides another reason to like you more! Sometimes I wonder if we would learn more by attending to our sadness moments; the whys and the wherefores
We let our old one go to the council and I know exactly what you mean, the new one is proper leather and lush but not as cushy yet. It's like losing an old friend isn't it. This is the shiny new stiff bugger - we are getting used to it
Totally get that. It's why our home is full of redundant stuff. Wasn't a problem when we lived in Brixton - all we had to do was leave the unwanted furniture on the pavement outside our flat and it would it be rehomed in hours. Much loved old studio couch went that way. Hate waste.
I still mourn a past sofa. Whilst it was still available to buy I used to "visit it" by sitting on the same one in the shop. Sadly discontinued last year.
I found it far harder to dump our 30 year old sofa which had had mouse and moth infestations and our elderly cat had peed on several times than I do to end human relationships which have gone wrong. I suppose the sofa never made me feel uncomfortable. I still pine for it a bit now.
It's a gloriously shabby leather three seater which can legit fit five, with very wide arms. All yours if you promise to treat it kindly and can transport it. Reply if interested and we'll DM.
Man I used to love REM In Time when it came out. Listened to it constantly. I'm too far to take your sofa I'm afraid but I'm definitely going vinyl shopping.
We got rid of a similar one just last week, originally I put it in the front garden with a *free to good home* sign , nobody took it 😔 then the wife put a *FOR SALE £50* sign on it …. someone nicked it within ten minutes 🙂
Very fine choice of listening material on the left hand speaker, but a hifi nerd might recommend pulling the speakers away from the wall - is that why you need a new sofa?
BHF will only take stuff that's close to shop condition, due to supply of second-hand being greater than demand. So def try them but don't be too upset if they say no.
I am still trying, and failing, to give this sofa away. Someone must need it. Don't make me send it to the tip, BlueSky. I don't think I can emotionally take it.
Had the same problem this week, put on gumtree for free, just collect it. Someone said they wanted it, then didn’t turn up to collect it. It’s mental……
Have you tried leaving it on the kerb? The sofa distribution service is similar to the one for cats, except it takes sofas away rather than delivering them
I maintain that the biggest ideological split in society is between people who cannot go to the tip and people who absolutely cannot wait to go to the tip.
Such a shame we no longer have youth clubs or community centres, where it would be much enjoyed. There are some charities that still collect.. don’t give up on it.

Recommend Emmäus or Sally Anny who both do pick up (in our neck of the woods, don’t know about that London)

That one hurt
*eyes the nicely bashed up leather two seater sofa, three seater sofa and chair that I have squeezed into my living area*
Can't take the sofa unfortunately, but if you ever decide that rug is too big for your flat...
Is this an orgy sofa? At least leather is wipe clean….
Human psychology, man. It's weird.
Obviously that would require significant payment to take it away.
