New UnitedHealth internal memo (leaked to me) suggests the company is undertaking an empathy offensive. "We know the health care system isn’t perfect,” the message says. "There is more work we can do and must do..."

Lol. They'll pretend to give a sh*t for a while, and they'll spend money on this campaign, but it'll remain profit-grubbing as usual and they'll never devote one red cent to helping their customers with health coverage.
"It started with dreams that have translated into achievements..." WTF kind of brainwashing happens to those who work in health insurance? Do they think they work at Disneyworld? Who's job responsibility to deny a cancer patient treatment or someone their insulin started with dreams?
Yeah hypocrisy, uhg won't even give us $1 raise yet they can pay them millions. Can't believe ppl at work are actually having sympathy for con man CEO, witty is worse than other guy killed too
I think one of the greatest flaws of compassionate people is that they try and relate to sanctimonious, pathological misanthropes as if they have a sense of empathy and guilt, like they themselves do.
There are much worse flaws to be had. But when it becomes clear that no matter how many times you shout or vote, they still press on, and even a death of one of their own doesn't get the message across, what can one do?
If the only thing that gets them to change their business model is *this*, what message does that send?
They really don't know what to do now. If they cave in to *this*, they're really kind of making a statement on what must come next to get them to make healthcare better.
The right thing to do is a national Single payer like Medicare for all.
Unfortunately, as long as the rich control the narrative this will not happen.

Again they’re cutting off the end of the quote
But
Don’t worry, I gotchu
“There is more work we can do and must do to extract every possible penny from these rubes while we enjoy their pain, suffering, and desperation like the vampiric ghouls we are.”
*very profitably denying Chemo patient's anti-nausea meds over the sound of them retching horrifically unable to keep down food* "we know we need to rethink this and do better"
We did not correctly predict how many of you we could make suffer and die before you got super mad, and as our CEO, I'm going to say that was our oopsie between pals! ...best pals?
Mimicry of empathy is the best that psychopaths can do. They're often very confused when they mimic empathy for the wrong reasons and people see them as monsters.
All MAGA at work actually believe his BS too. My team brought up oh I'm so mad they are applauding shooter and I'm like I guess I am since this other CEO is even more ruthless. They can't comprehend killing millions is somehow better than killing 1, doesn't matter if was by gun or not.
hahaha we had ashtrays in our classrooms before they had to ban smoking in the classes. u could get a pass to go smoke. this was in private high school
ahh the the good old days haha remember when they suddenly banned smoking in theaters and it became like a police state in theaters for like five years?
They call the people who deny your authorizations
"Care advocates" and call your need for care your "care journey."
They say they design plans to lower out of pocket costs. While they increase out of pocket costs every damned year and make more procedures charge deductible and coinsurance.
They're trying to find a balance that doesn't exist. It's either "wow this is bad PR and we need to fix our image" or "we can't exactly show people that popping out shithead CEO in his dome piece produced the desired result"
He's pissed since everything is finally coming out, UHG is the worse of all the companies. I know all at work are MAGA, they defend CEOs that are beyond overly paid and not even give us $1 raise. We do the work, not CEO
We know the healthcare insurance system in America is not perfect. But have you seen my house? It is absolutely spectacular. So we need a fix that allows me to keep living here.
the best part about an empathy offensive is when the ppl brigading the public consciousness with this goofy self-preservation campaign are sociopaths with only a comical grasp of what the word empathy even means.
NYT has always been an enemy of the working class; they were very helpful to police in pushing their propaganda that helped bolster the "crack epidemic" in the 80s
"Hi Pete! Turns out the folk-hero CEO shooter guy was one of your IDW anti-establishment grey-centrism guys, not a blue-haired leftist. Country clubs across America aren't very happy about this Pete, it's very hard to message around it, would you care to explain why you did this to us?"
I must see this! I think this is because Thiel is German born. He grew up in a time when red terrorists targeted the wealthy all over Europe. I can almost hear Papa and Mama Thiel discussing, in hushed voices, how terrible it was in Germany.
Oh I feel so much better. He really understands. We can totally trust him and his board to reverse their entire carefully structured system of extortion and forgo millions in ill-gotten gains.
What I will never understand is this. If the plebs end up offing themselves or just no longer being around, what will these useless middle management likes do? I'm not for violence but it seems to be a language that is spoken
He said this 3 yrs ago and still not changed, in fact UHG got worse. I keep thinking shooter got the wrong CEO 😂. In company meeting he literally said at end of this mourning we need to make billions next yr. Right there and I'm like this guy needs to go too
That was my take as well. "We know the health care system isn't perfect, because we've all seen next quarter's projections. It'll be tough, but let's brainstorm some ideas on how to kill fewer of our customers for more profit so we don't look so horrible."
Why does this read like the mission statement of a bunch of masked, hooded people's heroes yell as they bike past a gonzo journalist they see on the street?
They're actually an insurance company and hospital chain and nursing homes and pharmacies and doctor's offices all under one parent company and beholden to make profits for shareholders, which is the entire problem in a nutshell.
Insurance companies are parasites masquerading as an essential part of society because they were able to successfully lobby a bunch of politicians with "campaign contributions" (i.e., bribes) to force their existence to be necessary.
If you can, ask your source to send some of those terrible sketches of like "How to handle a patient who is having a nervous breakdown from being denied life-saving care for their child."
United called me, lied & said they needed me to do a Medicare survey, asked me 13 minutes worth of questions & turned me into my state DHR for "not having my needs met." No follow up to the question. I live in bama - my needs rn't met. Called Medicare & that was NOT their survey. This is United.
Now United is calling me trying to entrap me into saying something they can turn me into the FBI for. They've called twice since the ceo death trying to start a fight.
This is what United is.
Depraved, demented, deplorable.
“…that’s why effective today were dissolving our business and lobbying Congress with all of our funds to get single pay healthcare in the United States of America”
That smirking UHG CEO is Andrew Witty. Witty lives in England where he and everyone he knows is covered by the NHS. Witty required Brian Thompson to deny healthcare to Americans in order to maximize profits. Brian’s friends & family suffered under Witty’s leadership.
In England being “covered” by the NHS is kind of a loose term. I’d take it over what the US has but they ration care to a level that is pretty bad. An example is science shows everyone should get covid boosters but they only offer them to people over 65 or with co-morbidities.
Oh dear. I once watched a history exhibit in Scotland where people described the horrors they encountered prior to 1947 when the NHS was implemented. It was as inhumane as the US system is today.Gut wrenching. I wept.
Hey Ken, you think this is bad? Wait until you uncover how much of your Medicare money is disappearing into these same healthcare multinational corporations promoted by AARP as Medicare Advantage scam. There won’t be anything left for you or your kids once they’ve managed to steal that money.
"We feel your pain. Unfortunately, we're painsluts who crave endless savagery inflicted on our pathetic bodies, so we can only get enough by making you all suffer horrendously so we can get the pain Mistress says we deserve so much."
Translation: “Please don’t worry, investors, this will have minimal effect on next quarter’s profits. There’s plenty of exploitation left in the system. Line go UP!”
"We know the system isn't perfect. No, we will not stop lobbying to prevent the system from improving, but we may allow the age of entry for Medicare to lower to 60"

see yall in boston harbor
Written by PR committee.
There is no reason for a middleman to get in between the doctor and patient. Except to siphon money.
Nah. That’s madness.
I’ve heard diplomacy described as the act of saying “nice doggy, nice doggy” until you can find a rock. That’s what they’re doing.
Corporations have a choices and latitude in how they approach their customers, don't let them off the hook by saying they do not.
They really don't know what to do now. If they cave in to *this*, they're really kind of making a statement on what must come next to get them to make healthcare better.
They're screwed.
No apparently you fucking don't

The truth is, their existence as a company itself is a problem. You fix it by getting rid of their company.
Medicare for all! Now!
u buy a car every year and get it 60% of the time
they can have a seat. in the cell next to trump and garland
"Care advocates" and call your need for care your "care journey."
They say they design plans to lower out of pocket costs. While they increase out of pocket costs every damned year and make more procedures charge deductible and coinsurance.
Get a negative denial rate. Find people who have no coverage and get them free denial free healthcare for 25 years.
This will work with a 0% failure rate.
Oh wait…
Yo! Hello?! You’re CEO was killed for managing an industry which profits off death… It’s gonna take a lot more than “we know the system isn’t perfect”
those donations will be tax deductible for the company, not the donor...btw.
"There is more work we can do and must do."
Disappointing their shareholders isn't on the agenda however.
"what is empathy?"
"101 small ways to demonstrate you are empathetic without losing profits"
"we are people-centered*"
*we didn't say WHICH people
This is what United is.

then it’s not good enough
Gotcha.
Too far?
- Neil Young
It will be about seeming to have empathy.
