NFL coaches being this bad at clock management at the end of games is unexplainable to me. Tomlin with another masterclass on not giving your team a chance to win tonight.

The final Steelers’ 4th down play didn’t connect, but even if it did he was in the middle of the field with 11 seconds and no timeouts. Good luck with that.
Some of that blame is also on Wilson for not throwing it away instead of getting tackled in the playing field. Also taking so long in stopping the clock on the previous first down. And the last play not throwing it to the sidelines. Not enough time to stop the clock
Seems like Wilson has increasingly frequent bouts of brain freeze. Hit too many times no doubt. His decision to run instead of throwing the ball out of bounds to stop the clock was not the coach. It was all Wilson
drive had nothing to do with Tomlinson, Wilson shouldn’t have thrown 2-yard pass to Harris. Time > yards in that situation. Then, never should have scrambled. And the discombobulating effect of that scramble led to a rushed play and the sack Two mistakes you don’t expect from a senior QB.
I feel so bad for Pickens. He must feel just awful. Just kidding I'm a Bengals fan. This could wind up being our year to increase our record for losing the S-bowl in last 30 seconds to FOUR. WhoDey. Lol
I have a lot of Steelers fan friends who say the same thing and are tired of the playoff losses. As a Giants fan, my only advice is be careful what you wish for.
And trust me, I’ve heard all the arguments (“he just needs a QB”/“other teams will fired their HC to get him”/“you won’t get anyone better”) and its just exhausting and feels extremely patronizing. ATP, I’d welcome him being let go and us tanking
I guess I always figured they have a person up in the booth charged with helping the coach with time management. Just like the guy who has the job of pulling the coach back to the sideline when things get heated.
"Hey coach, if this pass is complete we need a time out"
How in the hell did Tomlin mismanage the clock? It wasn't Tomlin who burned 22 seconds by catching a pass for -2 yards; that was Harris. And it wasn't Tomlin who burned 29 seconds by running for 3 yards instead of throwing the ball away; that was Russ.
Not defending Tomlin but when your receivers are dropping catchable balls, and your O-line can’t even gain 1 yard on 4th down. So, sure, we can all blame the coach, but where is the player accountability?
Wilson is washed up. Fields should have been playing the whole season based on his start. From the Steelers' perspective, this is a lost year because they didn't run with Fields. Wilson is not your future. Fields could have been. Stupid.
Agree. I'm not talking about this one game. They've lost 5 of their last 7. You have a beast sitting on the bench who can run through walls and has a howitzer for an arm who could be your qb of the future. Wilson shouldn't even be playing.
In retrospect you're correct, but Fields was playing mediocre football & it's not like the offense was cranking even when they were winning w/ him. For a while RW looked like a smart move & it actually looked like a professional offense for a while. Then, as usual, no killer instinct from the team.
I'm not a Steelers fan. I'm a Bears fan. I started watching Steelers games because of Fields. He was the only reason to watch Bears games the three years prior to this one. He had no o line & shitty coaching, but he improved every year. Steelers #1 job should've been to keep developing him. #fail
The time mgt at the end of the game would not matter if those receivers should have caught the ball throughout the game. Just bad decisions the entire game by coaches and QB. They will lose in the first round if they continue to play like they did today.
I think Tomlin is overrated as a coach. The “no losing seasons”!stat looks nice, but what has he done with it? 1 SB at the beginning of his HC career with mostly Cowher’s players and a lot of WC losses
Most of the blame should fall to the defense for not getting the Bengals off of the field, 38 min to 22 min. A slow moving offense has no chance to keep up.
Two-way street.
The offense needs to do their part and sustain drives.
There were too many 3 and outs against a bad defense. Bengals offense is one of the hottest in the league.
Pickens throwing and Russ with the bad decisions. I can't hate on Friermuth as he balls/blocks all night but terrible timing given Bos makes that kick 99/100 times
Tomlin didn’t look well to me when they showed him on the sidelines. Something looked off. Not making excuses for poor clock management, but he didn’t look right.
Right? He stood with a really odd gaze. His eyes were glassy. He looked strange. I like watching him usually. He’s animated. He walks around. Not last night.
My husband has been a Steelers forever and said Tomlin sleeps in his office after games because he’s already planning the next one. I imagine the stress of the job gets to everyone eventually.
Look, they blew three chances to get a SINGLE YARD towards the end of the first half. Not sure he's really the issue here. They didn't NEED to win and the players didn't try that hard on offense.
exactly.
zack taylor and his complete refusal to give up play calling is the only reason the bengals are in the position they are. he is horrible, but he saves mike brown money, so it won’t end anytime soon 😑
This was not a game to be remembered for poor clock management. It is a game that will be remembered for dropped passes!!! So many drives an opportunities were snuffed out because Pittsburgh receivers dropped the ball.
Teams have gambling “partners,” refs blow calls and now coaches can’t manage the clock. As Jefferson would say, “We hold these truths to be self-evident.”
What are you referring to? That wasn't a misuse of timeouts. Russell should have thrown it away. Not get tackled inbounds for 4 lousy yards. The timeout needed to be saved for the field goal.
Senator Fetterman jinxed the Steelers‘ season with his wager against the Eagles and the Major of Philadelphia. Especially with his obvious lack of enthusiasm on sticking to his obligation when he lost…
