This is exactly right. Elon fooled lots of people into thinking that his acquisition of Twitter was about protecting free speech—it was always about reengineering a public square into a reactionary echo chamber. Which is why he’s flirting with running the same play again with MSNBC.

On the other hand MSNBC is Republican-lite trash that has aided in the rise of fascism and seen declining ratings. If it forces progressives/normie centrists to rebuild media that could be a positive

Recent history shows consumers dropped the NYT and Washington Post in droves, and X is shrinking while BlueSky is growing but sure people will just stay on MSNBC.

To me, it looked like a temper tantrum about being told "no". Only later was it realised the only way to pay back the massive overspend was with a massive grift, requiring the total suck up to the angry US right?
