all the countries that invested into the US in the past have been humiliated and alienated and attacked by trump. why would they invest into the US instead of securing their own ecomony first?

There is no guarantee tariffs will stay in place in the US. Regulations are in flux so you can't factor in those costs.
Outside the US factors are more stable, business can predict taxation, regulation, etc.
And global demand will be there, US or no.

A VERY solid fraction of the US workforce operates on a paycheck-to-paycheck.
I took me about 3 minutes to show a guy who claimed to "know about lumber" that, even if you pushed US mills to 95%, its still 3-4 years to get another 30-40 x 100 MBFT plants on line.
Seems reminiscent of Medieval England.
