People on CNN think they're better than the dipshits on Fox News, but they parody the exact same language for Palestinians that Fox uses on black kids who get murdered by cops.
40% of the Palestinian population in Gaza and West Bank are under 15, so compared to many other populations the heavy hand of Israeli security forces and IDF are going to capture / kill....children..i guess that proportion is going down to 'normal' levels making the stats more 'palatable'
Fits perfectly with the notion that teens of color are full adults, but white teens are precious babies full of potential and must be guarded from "the world" as long as possible.
Minors is not a universal synonym. In Israel majority is achieved among many Jewish communities at the Mitzvah 12/13 depending on gender. In many Islamic communities 14/15 and/or puberty marks adulthood. Legal age of consent in Israel is 16.
@nytimes.com take “During that time, at least 50 women and children — from the roughly 240 people that Israeli officials say were abducted on Oct. 7 — would be exchanged for 150 Palestinian women and minors imprisoned in Israeli jails.” They are a bit more subtle with the racism.
I read a story in, I believe, Al-Jazeera and it was a mom just saying she was so excited her disabled son was coming home that she was going to make him desert for breakfast every morning and that really got to me.
The Guardian did a similar thing in a lovely little display of mask-off racism then hastily removed it from the article with no editors note when they were pulled up on it
Ha’aretz: “The list includes 123 minors under the age of 18. Five of them are 14 years old, imprisoned for offenses ranging from hurling firebombs to arson.” This is not quite the same as the list of Israeli child hostages, most of which are 12 or under & one of whom is 10 months old.
The Palestinians being released are, in fact, prisoners. People who have been detained for violent conduct. Whereas the Israelis being released are hostages Hamas took in October 7 explicitly as hostages.
Do you have a list of what the released prisoners were held for, and how many of them had been convicted of any crime? If you don't, then how can you state so firmly that they were imprisoned for violent conduct?
Your tone doesn’t indicate genuine curiosity, but here. And I didn’t say convicted, I said “detained for.” Because the point is there is a reason one set of people is being called prisoners and the other, hostages. Many other articles explain which prisoners are eligible if you can’t see that one.
I have been searching for a list of the released prisoners and what each one was supposedly detained for. If you have such a list, I'd like to see it. If you do not, then how can you say that they were detained for violent conduct, if you don't know what they were detained for?
The reason is media bias. It's as simple as that. If all it takes is a claim that there's legitimate reason to hold them for the differentiation to be made, then hamas has also surpassed that threshold by claiming its defending their borders. Both are holding hostages.
Have you even looked at anything about the Palestinians being released? Some were detained for minor offenses and others for attempted murder. The hostages? Kidnapped by terrorists. It’s not media bias; it’s different circumstances. The child/young adult thing is totally different from this.

Closer. Really lean in, this is important:
SUB ADULTS ARE CALLED CHILDREN YOU FUCKING KNOB.
They already send me 8 death threats this evening for daring to question the hostage takers motives.
My understanding is that, in their own cultures:
Jewish boys become a man at 13.
Islamic boys become a man at 15.
(/s of course)
Regardless, they are all children to us.
adolescents?
