I was one of those kids satisfied with what was on the radio so didn't seek better at indie record shops. Apart from Elvis Costello, Squeeze, and Split Enz, was mostly AOR: Foreigner, Cars, Van Halen, Boston, Heart, Led Zeppelin, Cheap Trick, Rush, Styx, Hall & Oates, Journey, REO, Tom Petty. Sigh.

We have quite a bit of overlap. I was a serious radio fanatic (WNEW 102.7 FM!) in the late 70s/early 80s - when all those acts were going strong. Radio music was a fave. But I was buying LPs by Yes, Tull, Crimson, ELP, Rush, Renaissance, Oldfield, Genesis… you get the picture.

That old advertisement for the Columbia House Tape Club was pretty much my line-up: Phil Collins, Billy Joel, David Bowie (but not the good 70s Bowie), Loverboy, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, The Police, The Cure.

Some good stuff, but some really mid 80's bad stuff.
