Attempting to instill manners in the 4yo: “What’s the magic word?”
“You say ‘please’ is the magic word but it’s not. It’s ‘abracadabra’. Everybody knows that.”

One of mine, about 11 yrs., came home to a ladies gathering.
Me: Say hello, son.
He went around, said hello and shook the hand of each lady.
I was so proud.
Lady: So polite! WHO taught you such lovely manners?
Kid: I taught myself.
"I create as I say."
"Abreq ad habra: Throw lightning unto death"
I actually never heard anyone say "magic word" until I was much older, though.
Me in Dad voice: "Why you're welcome darling teenage troll."
Teenage Troll: *mutters* "thank you."
