Oh wow there goes a milestone of American Pie. Condolences to Arlo, her family and friends. So many many times that wonderful classic has been played and loved dearly. I remember radio stations the old rock stations, would play it on Thanksgiving day.

In Eugene Oregon, they play Alice's Restaurant in full at 4:20 on Thanksgiving day. They have been doing this for many years.
All the hippies would finish their meal, smoke a big doobie, and sit in silence listening to the 25 minutes long track.

When this came out, I was 19, pregnant and not getting out much. My mother took me to a drive in movie to see it. She talked about the "turn your hat and cough" scene for ages. (She was a nurse.) 😆

This was nigh 20 years ago, and I knew that the big classical outlet was there, too, and I found them-- and I couldn't find an entrance. It wasn't a place that was looking for human customers to mill around! But their catalog used to be incredible (Berkshire was the name?), with low-priced cutouts.

My mom, Alice, also had a restaurant. Her husband opened a second location and called it Alice's. She also hates that song. My brother and I had it memorized and sang it all the time.
