My primary professional organization, which alternates annual meeting locations each year, has moved its 2027 conference out of the U.S. - where it was already booked - saying it will hold no more meetings during the current admin after this year in the U.S. This is unprecedented to my knowledge.

My son is a postdoc in neuroscience. Now looking abroad for long term employment.
Although not conference related I know many people who say they would need a very good reason to leave and risk customs coming back.
I also know people who have chosen to leave and come back without electronics.
I was planning to spend 2 months.
Also consider other case of those already employed in US with green cards or on visas who are hesistant to leave in fear of the return trip (=current message to grad students)
For them it's not even about acting ethically; they just fear that non-US attendees will stay home, turnout plummets, and financially the event would be a loss. They have to move.
Me and my father decided around 15 years ago to avoid the US, as the border crossing always felt worse than any other country's (ok, second to crossing into East-Germany in the 80s).
The virtual early COVID years were incredible for accessibility, but they rejected continuing that way. Now we face this.
