Ok so here's what I'm mad about today.
The invisibility of disabled people.
There are invisible disabilities (altho frankly they are not that invisible, we're just working our asses off hiding them) but you can be hella obvious and people don't notice.

If you can keep it hidden then you're "not really that sick."
We can't win.
By the time I convinced my gran to get a blue badge, she did at least pass inspection by busybodies🙄
With my disability plates on my car. And me about 8 steps away from it, hobbling as I do, WITH MY CANE.
It's only invisible because people don't want to look.
The amount of time it took for me to recognize that my C-PTSD is a real disability is embarrassing. Same with having labral tears in my hips. Denial that I was in pain and getting worse to the point that I could barely walk, I ran myself into the ground.
Now I use a walker and honestly I like it better because people don't bother me as much
I wear oxygen.
I wear a mask.
People asking why I'm wearing a mask.
People telling me to feel better, heal, pray, use X treatment...
I have COPD & emphysema.
Stage 3/4.
I work for insurance.
Just got disability.
I'm 64.
Some people really don't seem to notice. 🫤
Less than an hour later: You’re only working 3 four hour shifts a week? What kind of full time work are you looking for? Why not?
Well, you know how I never come to anything?
That's very true
I could work if mine were really invisible
Everyone else: no, you’re not.
Privileged to have diagnoses for 3/4 invisible disabilities, no one cares. Not family, friends beyond a couple, not doctors. I have a spouse, kids, a good job, but being alive is EXHAUSTING
Of course I’m left to ask if she means in general or 🧵
Does it always have to surprise people?
Btw, the dr came in alone and then said all the same things.
Because I’m not screaming a writhing in pain, people can’t imagine I’d feel bad 🙄
I am good at describing my vision because of the godzillions of people who have responded to learning I am blind with "but you're not REALLY blind!" And I have had to convince thrm that I'm not being an asshole;
It’s just really hard, being made to feel like a burden just living, I really wish I’d not internalised so much BS about myself but I think it’s near impossible not to.
Milky white eyes, with dark sunglasses to hide them because of shame.
That, or someone who's eyes don't look the same way. Which, again, is another SPECIFIC THING and usually more-
Regardless. They're basing it off of stereotypes and if you don't meet that, clearly you're not REALLY blind.
They also ignore it's a spectrum...
This is why I'm so adamant that sighted people shouldn't play blind people in the movies. It's resulted in people having no idea what we're like.
For that matter, fluorescent lights in so many buildings fucking hurt too 🥹 There's a reason I have sunglasses that block something like 98 or 99% of the light.
And while my new ones can't do that, the blind woman that showed off her pair to me uses them to-
Can use my others for outside, and those for inside.
NO! I CANNOT! OF FUCKING COURSE!
I don't because I was _in a car_ when I had my 2nd fit (not driving)
Like bro what???
Disabled people look different from you. Not that I know how they think they know this, since they don't think they've ever met a disabled person.
Or people saying I can't be a quad, because I can move my arms. While ignoring that C5-C8 usually CAN.
YEAH, I CANT FUCKING USE MY ARMS WELL AT ALL! But I can use from my shoulder to my elbow just fine, and that does a FUCK ton to accommodate things!
So unless my elbow to my fingertips aren't part of my arms, it's still effecting my fucking arms.
If you have said that and you mean it: public transport including planes, gfocery stores, schools, the post office, the bank. Bare minimum.
I HAVE to go to the hospital for part of treatment for MS. Because MRI's are crucial.
The amount of people who aren't admitted, who are obviously sick, and who aren't masked, has been so fucking high 🥹
Add to that the drivers that take me. Despite policy of masks required for-
Even better when they'll have a baggy blue hanging nearby. But not on them.
Like. I have no immune system, so thanks buddy! Even better given that driver was also eating tree nuts 🥲
Smallpox is coming.
(not yelling at you, just in general. Like if you are willing to mask up anywhere, let it be a place GUARANTEED to have disabled/sick/old people)
Leaving it off reveals an unwillingness to see us YET AGAIN.
Conservatives aren't being giant whinerbabies about sign language by accident.
"But you react to sound so you're faking."
I'm going to have to add this to my vocabulary..
