What kind of PC controller do y'all use, if you use one? Cause I don't think this PS4 controller is going to work because of its stupid constantly firing motion events on the 0 axis.
Personally I use a 22 year old Logitech gamepad that I bought when I was 12.

I don't have an N64 controller though, but then I don't have an N64 emulator either, so it's kinda moot.
Steam sees it as an Xbox controller.
Dumb name but it's a fantastic Chinese controller for about $60
It has super smooth hall effect sticks, adjustable stick tension, four back buttons, two additional face buttons, trigger stop switch, AXBY use mechanical switches
Also has gyro but I don't use it
Also through hacky way involving Raspberry Pi Pico I'm using it on Xbox 360 and Series X
There also might be some ways to ignore the "dead zone" around the center of the joystick. I'm not sure what libraries you use and what comes out of the box, but maybe there's some way to filter out any joystick events with less than certain value.
I'm just doing it in SDL and it's pretty easy to do controller
I'd test via Bluetooth, but I don't think my motherboard has Bluetooth.
DS4 does allow you to do some config stuff so it might. I've not played with the settings much.
In the past (10+years) I used to use a PS3 one
And for retro gaming, I like to use a perfect replica of the SNES from Buffalo which used to be like $6, or the one included with the Neo Geo mini (specially for arcades) which is pretty good as well
It would have been perfect for this tbh 😅
Released in 2003, never had an issue with it
Gets me called a cheater, often.
X to go forward, A to go back? A to go, forward, why Y to go back? A and X to go forward? What if they are using a PS controller!?
NIGHTMARE !
But i have an xbox controller too, just in case. but i dont like its face buttons. their click is so obnoxiously loud and annoying, in my ears.
These days, I use this guy, which functions pretty much like an XBox PC controller: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0C2V3QPN7?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title
Generally Xbox ones just work for PC
If you're running Windows then they're just plug and play
