Both my parents died before I was 18. I received a small (VERY small) monthly SS benefit, which gave me enough to help my step-dad continue to support me til I was 18. It would have continued to age 24 had I gone to college. This is not a one-off story. Many children benefit from this.

I see. It was presented in some reports as “Social Security loans to children,” or alleged “loans to children” corrected (as in this thread) as being actually Social Security benefits paid to surviving minor children. So changing SBA practice wouldn’t cut those (which are benefits required by law).

So much caca. 1) SBA requires a social security # to apply. 2) SSN can be cross-referenced with the SSA database to get the date of birth of the applicant. 3) adding a DoB field to the SBA database would add a potential point of error. 4) age was probably the age of the company, not the applicant.
