getting handwaved in all the "unbelievable how fast fascism exploded" takes are how the foundation and framework (ICE, etc) were built over time with bipartisan cooperation

It's been migraine inducing to see how many people believe this all has started since January 20th (or even 2016). At minimum we need to go back to the Patriot Act. But even that has origins in the 80's. Segregation Academies were legal until 1970.... Etc etc. This has all been building for a while.
Both the libertarian party candidate and the libertarian VP candidate were incredibly down with fascism. Same with the green party. Jill Stein not exactly famous for not loving Russia or not being paid large amounts of money by Vladimir Putin.
There is essentially no good LP left; a good many of us evolved in the early 2000s, a lot became Tea Party Republicans (and revolved themselves as the ur-fascists they were defined to be), and the remainder are cranks who did not evolve and won't admit to the neo-feudal destiny of their ideology.
It really is difficult for libertarians to accept that their entire so-called Utopia definitions are in fact just proto-feudal Roman patriarchy but the patrons are corporations instead of members of the patrician class.
Jill Stein is plainly a Russian asset. I'm not saying either that the 2000 parties were all that pure, but the modern Greens and LP are decidedly worse. And whereas in 2000 voting third party was an interesting and only distantly self-indulgent choice, in today's world it's pact suicide.
the fact that 'the border' is even an issue pushed by the media and made into an issue is crazy. Got dudes in places with literally no immigration talking about them flooding in and putting it over 'cost of living' as an top isssue
we just had an election where both parties competed to see who could be Tougher on Crime and Tougher on The Border, both inherently fascistic projects, and yet folks are Astonished by current events?
The astonishment with ICE/CBP is due to who it's also being applied to. It was "fine" and ignorable when it was about Mexican/Mexican American people and other Latin@ POC.
what if we filled the legislature with people who saw the actual responsibility to legislate as a boring, risky distraction from their real job: fundraising
what if we did that for decades and decades, even after they dumped their duties onto the executive repeatedly, and seemed relieved to do so.

They gladly support fascists deregulating industry.
The liberal politician in question: "We've given the Republican party our car keys, and now Trump owns them. Does anyone have bus fare?"
It's world building, theory crafting, fan fiction. That's all.
Plenty of people wanted all this stuff and that’s why it seems like there are too often only degrees of bad choices on the ballot.
c'mon now
what if we did that for decades and decades, even after they dumped their duties onto the executive repeatedly, and seemed relieved to do so.
I think it was Shane, but it could have been Dwight, that was like "Politics should be boring!"
