Was speaking with a USAID person yesterday explaining how at any other time countless phone lines wld be buzzing, working groups stood up, go-teams and aid being dispatched to after the Myanmar quake. Now ... nothing.

Not that it matters in the slightest, but I go back and forth on what's worse: That they know the full extent of the evil they're doing and love it, or that they really do think things like USAID were fraudulent wastes of time and anyone claiming otherwise are stupid or lying.

That’s what soft power is, acting like the good guys providing food, training and medicine for the locals while trying to influence politics and allegiances. It’s better than a sledgehammer.
China is happy to pick up the slack and is already building roads in Africa to access natural resources.

USAID has done a lot of good in terms of vaccines and lifesaving HIV medications. These are now gone and people will die of preventable diseases and AIDS.

I’d argue that running programs of regime change, coups, torture, disappearances and so on is so reprehensible that it outweighs whatever good works it’s using for cover.
They could just hand those resources over to the UN.
