Most Bibles are printed in China (many at the huge Amity plant in Nanjing, which I have visited), and whenever there is talk of tariffs religious publishers start lobbying.

Biggest in the US is Zondervan in Grand Rapids, MI (which I've also visited). I really don't know why so many "America First" types seem to overlook their services. 🤔

It's probably difficult to compete on cost. The Amity plant is gargantuan and has established relationships with the publishers of the New International Version - I saw many pallets of new NIV Bibles - among others.

25 yrs ago i used to sell truck loads of paper rolls. Sold to printers & newspapers.

If you wanted rolls direct from the paper mills they all came out of Canada.

My buddy who works for a company who makes cardboard boxes told me all their paper comes from Canada

It is true that lots of US publishers currently use Chinese printers, and that might change, but this stat is for paper that domestic printers would use

Such a strange post to get so much traction! Anyway: mills have been closing for years, many have converted to cardboard, printers have been consolidating. TONS of changes in paper & printing of books in past 5 years have already happened

The switch to cardboard is related to online shopping. Mills closing—private equity buying up & closing. Printer consolidation: logic of capitalism—big buying up smaller.

Publishers have been dealing with paper stock shortages for years. During COVID printer turnaround time was insanely slow. Printing costs are about 50% higher than they were 5 years ago.
