So the chart is about cumulative increases by age cohort.
The chart is essentially saying that over X time the increase went from 1 to 1.Y.
And considering the time. I'd say it's likely due to an increase level of screenings done for young people.

I quit drinking a number of years ago largely because of the health risks associated with alcohol consumption. I happened upon an article which led me down a rabbit hole on the subject. The science has been there for a long time, it was the messaging that was missing.

But studies show young people are drinking and doing drugs less than previous Gen's. . Wouldn't those rates have been higher in the past? I think they are missing something.

I don't doubt alcohol use causes all kinds of cancer, I just don't think it explains the high rates in younger people. Unless it's the combination of alcohol with another factor that is "new" like forever chemicals or lowered fiber intake or something.

Can you explain why all data shows drinking is massively down by young people compared to earlier generations? Why are these cancers on the rise today vs the 50s or 60s when drinking was so much higher. This doesn’t correlate with drinking data.

The data is not really giving us a clear answer as to why, but we do have to control for the increase level of screenings that younger people are receiving now.

There is a mountain of evidence linking prior SARS-CoV-2 infections to early-onset cancers, making this virus have a propensity to be oncogenic, especially the more infections one racks up. And most people are on their 4th or 5th by now.

It's the same in the UK. I saw some stat which suggested colorectal cancers are up in the young people by 22% since 1998.
