OK here's the thing, you don't have to love Blake Lively to recognize that she stood up against sexual harassment and is now facing a coordinated right-wing campaign designed to punish her and terrorize every other woman who faces similar conditions

I have basically no opinion about Blake lively either as a person or an actress.
But the fact that they hired a PR firm to run a smear campaign, says to me that she's about to expose somebody very rich & powerful who did something very bad.
Not even that rich or powerful, he spent like 50k(?) on commentors on reddit/facebook etc and successfully smeared her. Same PR company depp used to smear amber heard and he spent 150k iirc
Honestly, I didn’t get into the controversy or even know who she was, but the language the other side uses is the same vile crap misogynists have used all along.
I haven't followed one second of this I 100% believe her. I don't need to read what happened. I was a woman working in the financial industry in the 1980's. I know what happens to women, I believe her. Men who think they have the power are pigs. It's the truth.
100%. It's the same team that tried to destroy Amber Heard, too, and at least the main PR person is a woman. (I have no idea what kind of person Blake Lively is, and it's irrelevant to this matter, but I will say she is one of my favorite actresses. I skipped seeing this movie, though.)
Exactly. We can not like her but she is and remain a human being. We often forget the battle of someone today could be our battle tomorrow. We have to stay focused.
On a larger level, Blake's predicament is similar to what happened to Anonymous.
Their goal was to expose and dismantle human trafficking and the drug trade, which enabled it. So, oligarchs helped create fake Anonymous and shape public perception to retain control of their illicit businesses.
Sorry but I can’t get behind the “women always tell the truth” philosophy. It’s infantilizing and insulting. I believe in hearing women and taking them seriously. But I also believe in analyzing their claims against fact based evidence. And Blake’s claims are very shaky.
No one ever said "women always tell the truth". That's not a thing. "Believe women" means don't automatically assume she's lying for whatever BS reason historically used such as what she was wearing, was she drunk, had regrets, is looking for a payout, is out for revenge, jealously, blackmail, etc.
when the teams are "imperfect woman who demanded basic safety standards for herself and the rest of the crew and cast" vs "sexual harassers, the system that protects them, and the entire right-wing media ecosystem" I hope we're all clear which side we need to be on
There is this YouTube channel called without a crystal ball and the person who runs it named Katie is attacking Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds right now. She is calling them liars.

The media introduces tidbits to impugn Lively on moral grounds.
The media should (if they are going to cover the case) focus on contract law & sexual harassment law.
no
fuck off and shut up Mr. Reddit
Again: Gamergate is when they found out there were no consequences for harassing a woman if you followed the plan

Lively: #metoo. We’re here for you.
Right wing assholes: We are not going back!
I have no opinion of her, but I am always backing the survivors.
no fucking matter what.
Enough already to scare us to shut tf up🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
The phrase "believe women" doesn't necessarily mean "women always tell the truth" (or "believe all women").
I always took it as a slogan representing what you're saying: hear women and take them seriously.
If you want more people to agree with you, your message has to be clear.
You could add "believe women [that harassment and assault are real problems]" or "believe women [every time in every claim no matter what]".
One is reasonable. The other is dismissive.
It's not unlike "all lives matter"
The ideal that you believe a specific group 100% of the time without an iota of evidence is insane.
We should not encourage this because it’s wrong.
The influence of these "crisis PR firms" reveals much about Kamala and Joe's campaign. It's a battle against our common sense.
