Things I wish all modern games had at launch:
📸 Photo mode
⏸️ Being able to pause cutscenes
💾 AUTOSAVE
🎮 Remapping controls and buttons
🪖 Adjustable difficulty for each aspect of the gameplay
These just make games better in my opinion 🔥

I only got like 98% or 99%, and I saw the last section unexplored in the last cutscene of one of my games before it went to the credits 🙃🫠🤣
Anyway that silliness side - that's what I'm talking about to, and I'm talking about capability, not preference. Every game is unbeatable for some people and trivial for others. If you and I play any game at all one of us will find it easier than the other.
It's always a accessibility options if it's included but every game just should be walk over this you pick it up.
- in a finished state
- remove tedium
What I mean by tedium, when devs add an open world, it's usually just a feature that adds nothing to the gameplay and story, it's only traversal.
💾 Save anywhere (from someone often interrupted at an inconvenient point by my toddler waking up!)
👀 Colourblind mode (on behalf of my husband - a literal game changer for him when this option is there)
E.g. this post doesn't need any CB mode, all CB folk can read it just fine. Likewise games aren't inherently inaccessible, they only become inaccessible through exclusionary design choices.
Playing FFVII Rebirth right now, and it fits all the criteria above except able to pause cutscenes. Enjoying it a lot.
It is definitely one of the underappreciated gems from Square Enix.
Many a night was ruined by the loss of that precious 3rd life. That bar was too high! Too high! I was seven, and incompetent!
My other favourite game, Elite Dangerous, is an absolute bastard. Live service, delayed quit under fire, the learning curve is a cliff.
Tough! Gotta head on over to YouTube and hope you don’t find a spoiler when searching for your clip
After a whole lifetime developing driving skills based on ❌ = accelerate and 🟥 = brake, to be forced onto crappy shoulder-buttons really REALLY sucks.
Looking at you GTA.....
Shocking number of games dont let you pick certain frame rates or resolutions, esp weird screen ratios
And optimizations please. I dont care how bad it looks just please let low settings actually be easy to run
But really, a lot of the time it's because the publishers say "you're releasing on this date or else" and devs wind up scrambling to produce a build by then, even if it's shit
We still buy the games, so they keep pushing deadlines on devs
So I end up never finishing the game...
Personally, photo mode is just a "nice to have" for me and I'm fine with this being added in later updates, and even then just for games that are truly made for it.
But button remapping and difficulty adjustments should be non-negotiable simply from an accessibility POV. 👍
It seems legally by GDPR and data access rights, this should be required.
I'm down for massive class action lawsuits to make this right.
Save scumming is a thing just learn the shortcut.
Doesn't have to be visual either. Just let me know all the important parts that happened in the game since my last save.
... And I just remembered FFXVI has that. Excellent game! Just do what they did!
Wow, been a minute. Might need to bust out an emulator this weekend….
I was one of the top Subspace players in the world, still one of my top 5 games, albeit quite niche.
My personal beef is the “do you really want to Quit?”
Singlehandedly kills my desire to play the game at all 😮💨
Don't know if it's been fixed in the Remasters though, but yeah GoT's is elite. Hellblade 2 also has an excellent one
Having a disability doesn't mean that you need to play on an easier difficulty for the whole game but just parts of it.
Many games let you chose the difficulty just at the beginning and you're stuck with it.
Following people makes them move at the same speed as you
Add them to the list
I really hope that this is one of those times i'm just being dumb and not seeing it for looking.
Autosave for instance. Survival Horror can soar on the base of limited safety and saves.
Yeah sometimes it doesn’t work if you put the console in rest mode.
Photo mode lets you save scenic spots just as if visiting the place for real.
I have a lot of scenic photos saved online from games like Uncharted 4 and FFVII Rebirth that lets you savor the great moments in the game.
At least I wouldn't burn half my dinner during a mission.
Also the ability to skip cutscenes (or at least move the dialogue on by pressing a button)
All critical things for time poor gamers.
