Pete Buttigieg going on right wing platforms and not giving an inch is a million times more productive than Gavin Newsom inviting right wingers to his platform and letting them walk all over him.

Pete just may be too smart for so many of our voters to recognize. He just straight forward facts and rational mind where nobody on Fox or otherwise can really get anything to work against him as they know they’re not as wise
I mean Obama was uber smart nerd who could hold court in any discussion as well, and he made it happen. But like you noted, the brain rot on so many since 08 Obama era is so diff now. We not even going with simply decent moral humans, but the worst vile a**hole possible.
Both r campaigning & they both have zero chance of winning!
12 million voters walked away from the party because establishment democrats made the agenda, those voters are not coming back to business as usual establishment democrat candidates!!! If progressives aren't in leadership, the party's over!
I admire AOC and Bernie getting crowds out. However, the crowds look like the same ones Bernie had in 2016 when his sour grapes caused Hillary's loss. I wish more moderate Dems would get on the trail too.
I've been closely watching Pete for several years now, and can't say enough about how much I admire him...for his steadfastness, honesty, and ability to speak truth to power no matter the time, place or situation. I am glad he is using his voice to speak out...we need him!
And even if he doesn't change anyone's mind fully about anything/everything, he is taking up air time with facts rather than lies and that is by itself useful.
Discord, would you be able to share where you've seen that Buttigieg thinks the war in Afghanistan is justified? I'm googling but having trouble finding info on that
This is disappointing. I think I was blocked for asking the above question
I was able to find an answer. Buttigieg was literally a protester of the Afghanistan war. In college he was even asked to speak at some of the protests on campus
That's because there's a point and a productive outcome from Pete's actions, and absolutely none except for some kind of centrist preening for Newsom's. I had higher hopes for him, but mushy middle is a catastrophically bad reading of the present crisis.
Mayor Pete is SMART/effective and doesn’t just talk to Democrats. That’s a lesson to be learned by other Democrats and DNC. The message: Trump’s locker room talk doesn’t put food on your table, or provide $$ for your schools, or give you health insurance, or jobs.Democrats do. Straight talk works.
Gavin Newsom, could be the most implacable and influential person in the world, but he’d still be Gavin Newsom, the most unrelatable person in the world, for most people. Dude is the top of the cake of clueless.
As a Californian, I went from admiring Newsom to no longer supporting him for president. He lost me at saying Garcia Abrego was a distraction. His deportation violated the Constitution. I hope he got Charlie Kirk and Bannon voters because he lost mine.
I mean fair enough. I'm not gonna scold people over the past too much, it's unproductive to the struggle against all of this. So long as you're learning and moving forward homie.
literally spent much of the past 2 years repeatedly claiming that the far right Supreme Court allowing him to criminalize all homeless people will by the only thing to save his state hahahahah
I tolerated him as our governor because I grew up under Pete Wilson, but no way I am voting for him on a national level. There are better Dem governors & Dem members of congress
Yes, that! Newsom is an opportunist (like most politicians) who cannot be trusted. If it appears he is doing the right thing it’s only to further Gavin Newsom!
OK. But there are ppl who voted for Trump who could vote for D’s in ‘26 for house, senate, gov. If we tell them to fuck off rather than try to reach them, they prob vote R. In these times, being idealistic + absolute is not the best electoral policy. Dont need to be their friend. Do need their vote.
I don’t recall that she did. But it was also a three month campaign and very diff than what we are and will be dealing with going into ‘26 and ‘28. And bc a tactic did not achieve victory in the past does not mean it did not have benefits. And is not a reason to completely rule it out.
Well, I only bring it up bc I remember Harris’s key mistake, after the initial excitement following the DNC, was shutting out the progressive base of the party and instead doing appearances with Liz Cheney, in the belief that there was this vast ocean of moderate never-Trump Republicans to win over.
MAGA will never trust or follow or vote for Newsom. Just because he's making the people who used to trust him not trust him anymore doesn't mean the people who never trusted him will trust him now.
By talking with ppl like Bannon, Newsom may connect with ppl who voted for Trump and make it easier for them to move away. Don’t need them to trust, follow or vote for him. Just hear something that lets them shift towards D’s.
Umm, if you admire Bannon, you probably ARE a racist and misogynist, even if you don’t want to admit it. That kind of person is never going to vote for anyone left of center, no matter how nice they are. Example: they hate Michelle Obama even though she is the nicest!
somewhere, Jerry Brown is sadly shaking his head. I sincerely hope Katie Porter (or a woman of similar perspective) takes the governorship next time around and takes California back to being a leading light and not a lame one....
Fuck gross. trump is underwater on every issue. No need for elected Dems to degrade themselves. They will never be trumpy enough for maga. And they will only turn Dems against them.
Two different approaches. I think Gavin has guests he tried to find common ground with. To get new voters you have to find common ground. I know that’s hard concept to grasp these days but it does garner votes. Pete worked for Biden and is great at appealing to Fox viewers- finding common ground.
It's not hard to grasp. But there are ways to find middle ground without platforming extreme views. And there are ways to garner votes without shooting your base in the face. Knowingly moving the Overton window right to gain votes is wrong. Esp. when moving left gains more votes.
Also about a TRILLION times more effective than Bill Maher going out to dinner with тЯцмф, following it up with drinks, making out, and an all-nighter of hard rough sweaty dirty borderline abusive sex, then gaslighting his viewers because they're "too sensitive" and "reading too much into things."
It’s great he went on and he’s a genius at explaining things. I just wish he was a little stronger on some points. We do have a build the wall moment and it’s getting money out of politics. Dems don’t push on this and it’s holding us back.
Gavin Newsom lost my patronage FOREVER with that monumental clusterfuck. No amount of explanation or apology will suffice to unruffle my outrage. He gets filed under closet TRUMPSTER. He might as well have invited Trump, Vance or Musk.
Or AOC and Sanders going around holding rallies in deep red areas. I'm certainly for it and see the value, but let's stop pretending it's persuading anyone and not just getting the few thousand people within a couple of hours of where they are that already completely agree with them fired up.
You couldn’t possibly mean the same Pete Buttigieg who was essentially part of a conspiracy to drop out of the race for President to make sure Bernie Sanders didn’t get the nomination.
Newsom has a lot of penance ahead of him & must loudly & clearly renounce his kowtowing to MAGA before I give him a penny, let alone consider him a candidate. He, Gretchen Whitmer, Fetterman & the four idiots who voted “yes” on the SAVE act need to stay in the Democratic doghouse until they repent.
What's the point of engaging with these platforms in the first place? These people are the enemy. He's not winning votes, the median viewer of these things looks at him and thinks of/utters a word rhyming with maggot.
He would have done better to just invite MAGA voters and having conversations with them. Platforming the worst of those who got us here just deepens their reach.
He could’ve platformed moderate Conservatives to show other Republicans/former Republicans that those voices still exist, are relevant & are out there, rather like than giving airtime to crazy.
He worked there 2.5 years at the beginning of his career. Not sure it’s fair to hold it against him. Many of us became more leftist after seeing first hand what happens in Corporations.
Nah. He's too much of the old consultant-class liberal to be Prez, in my eyes. He'd make a good person in the cabinet, maybe, but his history wouldn't work for a lot of people, and it would DEFINITELY come up as a problem in a primary or main election.
His work with transitioning to EV’s was highly underrated. Not perfect but what they came up with in such a short time frame, it’s amazingly detailed & practical.
And the little rule requiring airlines to seat minors with a parent has been sooo helpful to anyone w/small kids. We needed it recently when we got bumped to an earlier flight.
Maybe? As Secretary of the Dept of Transportation he implemented over 66,000 infrastructure projects as part of a bipartisan project across all 50 states, highlighting leaders and workers in every state. That’s only part of his accomplishments as SOT.
Pete Buttigieg would make a great Canadian. If you guys don’t elect him president or senator or something can you send him north? We can always use someone with his attitude.😎
He thinks our war in Afghanistan was justified and that we should increase our defense spending lol. He doesn't have any votes, but he has voiced his opinion on several issues.
I'm grateful for Pete Buttigieg. He is meeting the moment effectively. I appreciate Newsom taking risks aaaand think there are better, more effective risks he can take.
Now's time for creative approaches- we got good peeps; we need the approach
Newsom is a huge personal disappointment to me. I live in California and I canvassed for this sell-out. I really thought he was going to be another FDR and instead he's half a Bill Maher on his best fucking day. Now he just wants to be a goddamn liberal Joe Rogan. What a fucking cunt. 😒

He needs to be a progressive fighter but he thinks he can be a Vichy Democrat collaborator and somehow that will help him.
He will find out the hard way that is a dead end.

Pete is just Pete.. Truly cool 😎

For maga? No.
Don't give the fascists lifeboats.
Different kind of strategies.
Thinking maybe he was trying out a performative approach to reaching maga & I don't think it was effective-- ??
Pete's the real deal through and through
