I opted for cats. Love my life overall. And while cats do tend to cause things to not be where I left them, I can affirm that the amount of displacement is far less than having another human around.
I'm young enough that most of my non-church adults wouldn't freak out about this when I was 14 (c. 1995) but my mom was outright told there was no other future available, by the school guidance counselor himself, c. 1970.
(Grandma disagreed, menacingly. Yay for not having to fight it out anymore!)
Cats are teenagers:
* Won't listen to you
* Still need to feed and clean up after them
* Independent to leave for the weekend, but they can destroy the house when out
* Gives affection only on their terms.
* Can be fun & entertaining
my 40yo me can confirm this plan is pretty damn chill, and the sheer relief I feel every time I realize I am not rearing children into This Particular Moment simply cannot be expressed.
I love my darlings but what you say makes sense. Lack of control that Trump brings--the ominous looming threats of fascist BS--makes you extra stressed about screwing something up that could affect your kids
This is so good - I want this future too, however I have 2 gross children already and apparently it's illegal for me to 'have less children' wah waah wah oh it's a special rule is it
Anyway. Any other gems from the powerpoint, or are you like 'absolutely, but they are MINE'
I can relate so much to the half commitment to the dog. “Maybe a dog” because you love dogs so much and you want to represent that, but you have to include the disclaimer that it’s still a “maybe” so you can’t be held to account.
And confirmed the no kids no husband is perfection, and clean.
I’m happy she has an understanding mom. I recall saying I wanted no kids when I was a similar age. I was called ignorant (yep even from my own mom). I did not change my mind — and I also got a dog in my 30s. She was my girl until she passed after 14 years. I have zero regrets about my priorities.
lmaoooooooooooooo. I remember being asked to make a collage of my life ambitions, and mine was the only one in the entire class that didn't have a human being on it. The teacher thought that was kind of odd and pulled me aside to talk if I was okay or not.
“I’m much happier on my own. I can spend as much time with somebody as I want to spend, but I’m not looking to be with somebody forever or live with someone,” Goldberg said. “I don’t want somebody in my house.”

It took me a while to realize this is what would bring me peace. No "maybe" about the dog tho lol

Just DOGGIE!!!
2) They got your wit and brevity.
Especially that stuff is exactly where you left it, it is indeed deeply satisfying.

More power to her, hope she does great work.

I know a lot of people who suffer from loneliness. It's an agony to them.
Long story short: 14y is way too early to fancy such a decision.
