If we're talking the modern iterations like ChatGPT, etc., -- I always say "not willingly". I am sure they've been foisted on me whether I like it or not.

But I've worked on game engines that depended on stuff like SpeedTree, which isn't destructive, but is definitely generative.

I think SpeedTree falls under procedural generation rather than generative AI. Following a customizable set of rules, not fuzzy auto-complete.

Yeah the difference is pretty clear, procederal generation can be run on a GBA to create maps in mystery dungeon games and doesn't need a month's rainfall to run it on.

Oh yeah when it was running on image info gathered specifically for the program and public domain stuff I generally was rather excited but the more I heard about attempts to implement it practically (like training it to identify skin cancer only for it to flag any image with a ruler as cancer)...

I'd be willing to bet that there's very few people above the age of 14 that this truly describes, despite what they may think. There are so many things out there that have used Gen AI for years, before most people were aware of what it was. Like all those photo transform filters on social media.

Never. I went back to Visual Studio 2019 just to avoid Copilot. I even stubbornly scroll past the crap Google tries to push at my at the top of results. Even if I know it's probably correct.

Unfortunately I'm in the same boat as many here:
Used Dall-E before it actually made anything recognisable, and used ChatGPT as a part of work a couple of years back (thankfully that side of the business was sold off and I don't have to touch it anymore)
