As one of your constituents, I appreciate you moving to this platform—hopefully the last time we have to move—and for answering questions. I assume that we will fight most battles in court to stop this administration’s policies. What do you think? Are we doing enough to mount legal action?
I agree on the move to Bluesky but I have NEVER used any of the other unsocial media platforms.
The first Pres. election that was tarnished by crap social media, hopefully this will be better
Veterans Disability and Social Security compensation have been deteriorated by inflation and the CPI based COLA has been insufficient. A raise for these programs would be very good for the Veteran community.
The Supreme Court ruling in Citizens United opened the door to what we saw in the last election cycle. Billionaire donors and wealthy corporations have an outsized effect on campaigns and it’s bad for democracy. (1/3)
I strongly support the For the People Act, which includes desperately needed campaign finance reforms to increase transparency, crack down on corruption, and stem the influence of special interest spending. (2/3)
Wow, thank you for this thoughtful reply! I wasn't aware of those bills you mentioned and I hope to see more news about them! Thank you for your work and protecting us from Trump & co.
2 suggestions:
1] remove the income cap on Social Security contributions. As long as income keeps coming in, people should keep making their contributions. This would strengthen SS ability to continue paying our elderly.
2]Return all tariff $ to taxpayers < $250k income
I am concerned that the next administration will try to roll back IRA investments, even though a significant portion of the funding is benefitting communities represented by GOP colleagues. (1/4)
I am optimistic that some IRA climate and clean energy investments will continue under the next administration and the funding that’s been awarded already will be difficult to claw back. (3/4)
Reversing these programs will raise costs for families in Oregon and across the country, and would delay the important work of reducing carbon emissions. I will continue to work on addressing the climate crisis, including with bipartisan solutions like my Coastal Restoration Act. (4/4)
Each of us has a civic duty to uphold. In addition to voting in elections, there are plenty of actions Oregonians can take to support their friends, neighbors, and loved ones.
Contacting your elected officials—including those at the local and state level—is one way to take action. (1/3)
Volunteering for a local organization that works on an issue you care about, like food insecurity or homelessness, is another option. Show up to your local school board or neighborhood association meeting. (2/3)
I understand that some might feel helpless in this challenging time. We all have the ability to affect change, and it’s important that we all continue to participate in every way we can. (3/3)
I am genuinely disappointed to see that you no longer engage on 'X'. I hope you reconsider returning to 'X' platform, as it's an important channel for direct communication with the people you represent.
I'm so glad you are here. Hopefully the comments section will reflect how much your constituents appreciate the work you are doing on our behalf. I appreciate you very much!
Are we doing everything we can, Rep Bonamici, to safeguard Oregon against the ravages of Trump's looming administration? I know that Gov Kotek is working on a Reproductive Rights bill for our state.
But, are we building a legal defense fund, in case we need to go to the courts to uphold what our state wants? I know Gov Newsom is working on that in CA. Thanks!
What will non-Republican leaders do now to protect people from their rights being removed? Can states protect their citizens if the federal government starts banning things like abortion and LGBTQ rights? Why are we not fighting harder?
In Oregon we’re fortunate to have strong protections for reproductive and LGBTQI+ rights, and we have elected leaders who are committed to defending our freedoms against extremist attacks. (1/3)
Thank you for responding to my question. I am from NY, but I have so many concerns, I need to be reassured that we’re not going to stand down. Again, thank you.
We know that Project 2025 called for devastating policies like a nationwide abortion ban, but there are many steps state leaders and members of Congress can take to stand up against harmful efforts from the next administration—just as we did in Trump’s first term. (2/3)
✅ We need to repeal/replace Citizens United and get Dark 💰out of our politics
✅ Defend the rights of LGBTQ+ and Marriage Equality
✅ fully supported Ukraine 🇺🇦
✅ Secure our standing in NATO
✅ Support the Bipartisan Bill for the Border that GOP scuttled
Living in your district I am looking for you to hold the line from the destruction of our nation. Items to fight for:
✅ defend Social Security and Medicare
✅ save the Department of Education from being dismantled
✅ take back the Checks & Balances of our Constitution and scuttle DOGE & Musk
I’m primarily worried about preserving the ACA, maintaining and strengthening free and equal education access, and protecting Oregon’s natural areas. How do you think the latter 2 will look if the DOE and EPA are non-functioning?
Do you think that the IRA provisions will be massively cutted even when they mostly go to red states, this is a very slim house majority but there are more united behind Trump than 2016
The Dems do such a horrible job at messaging, really are horrible at selling the customers the way THEY want to be sold. Unfortunately the GOP has mastered the art of this and despite all of us on the Left realizing their promises are nothing but empty words....the GOP messaging is effective.
Given the valid concerns about many of nominees, and the desire of the President Elect to avoid FBI background checks on them, why is there not a legal requirement that all nominees must be vetted by the FBI and at least a categorical summary be made publicly available, prior to being confirmed?
There looks to be a very thin margin in the House for the next session. Do you think it will be possible to sway any Ind/GOP votes to stop the worst of Trump's agenda?
I always welcome collaboration with any of my GOP colleagues who want to work on the real issues facing Americans, and I hope that some of them in the next Congress will do what’s best not just for their party, but for the people they represent and for the country. (2/2)
Follow-up: We have seen it takes more than being willing. What steps are Dems taking to identify GOP/Ind reps with common P2025 concerns (or of their constituents)?
Eg reps with majority farm/ag constituents who oppose mass deportation.
Will you please add your endorsement to Chairman of Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, Sen. Schatz's, appeal to President Biden to pardon Leonard Peltier?
I don't envy your strategic position for the next few years, we need you there to defend democracy in the most effective ways you can so there can be a next election.
We need to beat the Republican Disinformation Machine on the ground so we can win next time. How can you help with that?
Extreme right-wing interests have bankrolled efforts to spread misinformation on multiple platforms, but we cannot discount the power each one of us has to educate our friends, neighbors, and loved ones. (1/2)
I will continue to use my platform in Congress to speak out and correct the record where needed. I hope Oregonians will continue to use their voices as well. (2/2)
Will the Democratic Party go through structural changes to gain the country back? Rethink the brand? New leadership? Putting more young people forward?
What are you doing to defend the rights and dignity of trans folks? Capitulating on bathroom access for your own colleagues doesn’t fill me with much hope for the safety of my friends and family. (Constituent in Beaverton)
I want to be clear: trans lives matter, and trans people should be able to live their lives without politicians dictating what bathroom they can use or what kind of healthcare they can access. (1/3)
You still don’t get that focusing on trans cost the Democrats any credibility and the last election. Some honest D voices acknowledge that trans is still less than 1% of the population.
Speaker Johnson’s rule and Rep. Mace’s resolution are attacks on Rep. Elect McBride and the trans community. Their actions are part of a larger campaign that is putting trans people at risk. (2/3)
In Congress I will continue to speak out when my colleagues use hateful rhetoric or attempt to take away the rights of trans Americans. My office will always be a safe space for any trans legislator, staffer, or visitor to the Capitol. (3/3)
Thank you!
As a pelvic health therapist in your district I can say with clarity and confidence, people need to hear this. They feel exactly as they should, attacked, abandoned, and in danger - your support matters!
Serious thought: Make a stand by voting “present,” on everything that Trump wants. “Give the people what they want.” Let’s race to the bottom so we can repair ourselves faster?

But I want to ask about ranked choice voting, or any effort to move us away from a two party system. Is there any hope from your vantage on this?

The IRA is already making communities safer, energy costs lower, and working families stronger with high-paying jobs. (2/4)

We had a how-to on contacting legislators and its a good time to repost it:

How will you be remembered in history if you do nothing to address this?
You must act on behalf of the people you swore to serve.

Who is in charge of messaging for the Democratic Party?
I NEVER needed America to be “made great again” it IS great.

Never has extreme lead to good in any part of my life or the life of the USA
