US higher education is a crown jewel, a pillar of American power.
As @dandrezner.bsky.social explains, the incoming Trump admin aims to ruin it because of an insane theory—by which I mean crazy, nuts, largely in their own heads—of societal dominance by radical leftists, weakening the US with it.

Trump could claim stealing Harvard's zillion dollar endowment is an official act. Putting it into his bank account is just being patriotic. SCOTUS will oblige.
But - hey, the libs were sure owned, right?
So glad the world for Cletus Gunn and his friend Mary Kate Jeebus will be good.
Assuming conspiracy theories like that, as if they’re somehow coerced from abroad, is not only false, it also lets them off the hook for their own decisions.
Though few figured such a project would come from Americans.
People had a four-year preview, it's not like his character or the character of the people around him are any kind of a secret.
Ultimately, Rufo would like to see the number of Americans who enroll in four-year colleges slashed by more than half.
OK. So, fewer doctors, engineers, teachers, researchers, etc.
Smart move.
But hey - they get to own the libs!!!
Let's listen to the ill-informed 'common man' vs. the credentialed experts. Cast all universities as 'elites' who could only indoctrinate young America - despite all the GQP grads.
-Admins, trustees, big donors, and state govts have the most power at universities
-The top majors are business and health services
-More research and way more students come from big public schools than small private ones
-Many powerful conservatives are Ivy League grads
I remember as a little kid in Dallas in the 1960's what that world was like. Everyone knew their place and stayed in it. White men ran the world.
