This is brilliant. What’s always bugged me about R&J is that the answer to the natural follow up “so why don’t they?” is comparatively weak. Fucked up honour systems? Aye, ok, but also some absolutely mental plotting and a monk who wants his hard drive checking (codex? Manuscript collection?)

My teenaged theory was that Billy started it as a Comedy with a happy ending, but grew to hate the kids while writing them. So the play pivoted to a Tragedy to knock off the little snots.
