"i am going to separate the artist" are you. or are you going to separate your money from your wallet and give it to the artist like you don't know he's a rapist

Remember how when JKR showed her ass and we all were saying, "There are better stories out there about magic/wizards/friendship/boarding school/kids revolting against societal wrongs?"
There are better quirky "witty" dark fairytales and mythologies out there too, I am certain. (Not my genre tho!)
At least buy the books used. The author has no way of profiting off anything but the first sale. Also, used book stores are beautiful places that deserve support.
less bitchily, there's a conversation to be had around propping cultural relevance vs. the amorality of consumption but like. i don't want to have it. that's between you and your own conscience i guess
moving forward if you respond to explain that piracy exists, as if i am not a grown adult who lives in the world, as if this immediately removes any question of maintaining the artist's cultural currency, i will block you. fuck off
"maintaining cultural currency"! I didn't have so accurate a phrase when I ranted about this several years ago re: Rowling. (because yeah, even pirating stuff or talking about her work with affection counts to me)
as long as harry potter remains culturally relevant, then she's "harry potter author jk rowling" in headlines instead of "cameron strike author jk rowling" or more blandly "billionaire jk rowling", the latter two carrying significantly less value as a modifier on her opinion
like if you keep publishing opinions from "author of mid-market mystery series" people will ask, why are you showing me this. who is this lady and why do i care
no no you're right! I like hearing smart people yelling good opinions! It's EXACTLY what I get annoyed about. Often I'm so frustrated about it, I feel -angry-.
THANK YOU! I loved the film of Stardust and bought the book even though Gaiman never did it for me ...but it was so flat and sad and Yvaine was little more than a *doll* with no personality in it.
A lot of men tell on themselves in how they write women.
Yeah it’s been years since I read that book but I also remember the protagonist being real creepy towards the first love interest in the village and her being portrayed as a bitch even though the only thing she did “wrong” was be hot and not interested in the main character
I just remembered how vacant she was in the book. In the movie she had some personality and I got invested in the characters. The book was just... so flat. I just remember thinking "This writer is supposed to be pro-women? Where?"

Matters a lot less to me when their residuals are going to their grandkids who barely knew them.

This morning I’ve been thinking about cutting out the illustrations.
Amano is one of my favorite artists.
