Unlike previous cats I've lived with, Ariel and Caliban are largely ground-level kitties. Here Ariel is pretty chuffed with herself for ascending all the way to the second bookshelf. #Caturday

🎄 Hi all! I’m raising funds to help my family and give the kids a Christmas they’ll always remember. Your support—through a donation or sharing this link—means so much to us. Thank you for helping bring joy to our holiday season! 💖
We had two 3 legged cats for 17 years and it always astonishes me to see a cat on a table or chair. Ours couldn't even get on the bed without a special pet staircase.
My brother's landlord Lodi Butler had a cat named Baasr, d I'm going on that all the top shelves of everything. Then one day he knocked a huge jar onto the floor and it was glass everywhere but my brother padded through in the morning in the dark without realizing it was even there
huh, maybe it's just me but it feels weird that all the books are tucked back like that instead of them being level at the front. But maybe that's just the librarian in me ^^'
Shakespearean names for kitties! Does that mean you like science and history served together? My HUMANS: A MONSTROUS HISTORY does just that: it's a history of humanity told through the category of the monster. Here's a #HAMH thread with a poster illustrating Caliban: https://bsky.app/profile/drsurekhadavies.bsky.social/post/3l6sn5pmjj52t
What great names for cats!! The Tempest was the first play I was ever in, a children’s community theater production. I was 7 (or 6, maybe?). I got cast as Ariel. At the time I thought they only cast me as Ariel because I had red hair. And I didn’t know Ariel was originally a man’s part. 😆
We call the different types of cats Ground Crew and Tree Crew (in a nod to the Trikru on the show 100.) Our tuxedo is part of Ground Crew, and our tabby is Tree Crew.
I have had cats who defied gravity, and cats who thought they could defy gravity but could not (falls off back of couch, or jumps from couch to dresser across the room and crashes.)
My current cats are mostly ground level; one's blind and getting arthritic, and the other mainly climbs people/couches
My Molly used to be a climber - once I was on the couch trying to forget life when I heard a *thump* and she was halfway up the screen door. Once she got to the top of a bookcase. I think that time scared her, and she hasn't climbed anything higher than a countertop since. Part of me mourns that.

And great cat, of course.

I keep having to pry the little chaos goblin off the bird cage like some sort of demented Garfield window-clinger 'because it's up high'.

We see a bookshelf. They see a great spot to sit.
Cat's nice too.
