like... Metropolis is not a "good" film as far as conventional cinema goes, but it's an absolutely amazing window into all the most batshit concepts early 20th century filmmaking had to offer turned up by late 20th century hollywood cocaine overdrive
It’s mind-numbingly awful. He isn’t breaking new ground aesthetically, and the narrative is haphazardly organized around ponderously simplistic characters and high school-level libertarianism. It’s Atlas Shrugged as a Disneyland neighborhood, a paean to the same mindset as DOGE.
Yes but it was an admirable failure. I don't condemn artistic failures where the intent is good but the execution turns out badly. I hated the film but admire the intent and effort. Artistic risk taking is important.
Any war film is going to come up short when compared to Come and See. Anyway, you're welcome to your personal issues, as am I; but what you think of it--or what I think-- doesn't change the reputation of the film and its place in film history.
And RUMBLE FISH and THE OUTSIDERS are both fine films, but (strangely) not really part of his legacy. They're not seen as Coppola films in the way GODFATHER, say, is. He comes off there as more a director for hire. So those aren't the ones I mean.
I mean the dude made at least 5 of my favorite all time films but Megalopolis is more deserving of a full Razzie than any movie since Hudson Hawk 🤷🏼♀️
My thoughts exactly! And, sometimes, my taste in movies goes against conventional wisdom and I find that the film everyone seems to dislike is actually to my liking; so you never know...
Here’s the thing—I will think more about Megalopolis over the next decade than virtually any other film I have or will see. Granted, those thoughts will be along the lines of “Can you believe they did that/made that choice?”
Also, I don’t think I had more fun watching another movie last year.
Francis was around when Jaws broke out and created the modern blockbuster which was soon followed by Star Wars, and numbers have had more importance to an industry where numbers were always important since. Thus the focus on sequels in the wake of Star Wars but yeah man it’s only Rotten Tomatoes

It's very much akin to flying by throwing yourself at the ground and missing.
Like joker folie whatever. I’ll call
It joker 2.
Joker 2 was way way way way way worse.
That said: I haven't seen Megalopolis. Is it really that bad?
Watch Megalopolis and enjoy great satire. It is so much fun!

You would reach more people, when you add a good description into the Alt-text field.
That is pretty easy, especially, when your image just contain text.
This way, you support visually impaired people and everyone else, who rely on a good filled Alt-text.

Certain actors would’ve cried for sympathy points.

There are more filmmakers than ever making bold and risky films.
Now I must see Megalopolis
