The fact that Meta felt compelled to announce Threads added 15 million users in November the day after Bluesky hit 15 million users shows you Meta is worried

Somehow I got the Threads algorithm almost perfectly trained—it was my Twitter replacement which was politics, news and a few other things. I had almost solid politics in my Follow-You feed, and it’s awesome. However, they keep banning me from liking posts…apparently it’s a “danger to the community”
Honestly screw Mark Zuckerberg too he’s going down a similar path that Musk has taken with the rhetoric he’s been saying lately
He’s just showing the first signs though
They should be worried - about people like me, who was a Threads user (and Twitter quitter) from the day Threads was announced, but now one foot into BlueSky. I'd prefer if there was one clear Twitter alternative but if not, I'm gonna pick the best one.

I could bet most Threads users —me included— are there just because of having a prior Meta (FB/IG) account and this was honestly shoehorned upon us. Tried as I could, the engagement juice just isn't there for me. Here it is.
Meta sites are the epitome of what Cory Doctorow has labeled “the enshittification of the internet.” Initially great for users who are then sacrificed for paying advertisers and ultimately a payoff for stockholders as the platform becomes unusable and terrible.
When you try to silence people by not allowing posts to upload, and jumping in when you hit send and ask “are you sure”, that’s when it’s time to say, “yeah, I’m sure, this platform is not for me”. Meta does not respect its users or the First Amendment. Bluesky, so far, does. It’s a no brainer.
I cut off my threads and IG this week. Trying to get my 20 yo here and when I told her it is not owned by billionaire and is PBC, that got her attention. I suggest people get that message out far and wide. So many are done with the billionaires.
I had weirdness this account right after I closed out my Instagram / Threads accounts I’m not a fan of meta and how invasive it is. Now my posts here are showing “invalid handle”. Not that I’m paranoid (much) but seems odd. 🤔😬
Lawd yes!! The Onion acquiring Infowars is such a fucking genius power move that I literally checked multiple sites because I was so sure it was just routine Onion satire.
I’m not sure how Meta defines a Threads “user” but Threads could have a 10 billion users: As long as they continue to suppress political content it’s just about making Meta money
I think technically that I'm a Threads "user". That's because I have an Instagram account, one which I abandoned several years due to pretty much total enshittification. I won't ever use threads in any meaningful way.
But... do they make money? Threads doesn't run ads and seems mostly unusable. Its user base is manufactured with the network effects of Instagram and FB.
I like both sites. Threads doesn't suppress news/politics. It just wont automatically push it into your timeline unless you follow those accounts/engage with them. That and you enable news in your settings. Pretty much my entire timeline there is news/pol. There is also a chronological feed.
This was the dumbest move possible in my opinion. It's inflating their user count, but it's kneecapped the infrastructure and moderation needed for a text based platform. They should have just copy pasted Twitter, connected it to your Meta account, and they would have won the Internet.
In Brazil, the DAU perf of BlueSky has been far stronger than that of Threads. Threads has a lot of users Meta pushed in from Insta. They aren’t active and they don’t use it daily.
I left all of Meta the day after the election. I knew who Zuckerberg was when I joined, and he didn't disappoint. Likewise, I left Twitter the day Musk took over.
It's funny, but I joined Threads on the first day and got my invite to Bluesky the same day.
A lot of Threads users are just people who already had Facebook/Instagram accounts and decided to install the Threads app. The level of engagement there is somewhat sporadic and the abandonment of a chronological feed has turned my traditional Twitter users off.
Threads sucks. It just throws things in my feed. I log in, there is a thread from 12 hours ago at the top. I have to refresh over and over to get newer stuff. And even after refreshing I don't see anything from 5 minutes ago. I don't like the algorithm feed.
You're not the only one. But I make an effort to block as much of Meta's b.s. as I can. Many others do not, going by random posts talking about some ad or another.
I joined Threads the other day - one day prior to joining here (only because I hadn’t heard of blue sky yet) Now that I’m here, I know I won’t use threads and am canceling X.
If they were really worried, they’d make the changes people have been clamoring for over the past YEAR - chiefly, don’t throttle news and politics, have sane moderation, and fix the algorithm to bring more recent posts to the front. No signs of them budging on that.
I'm not sure why people think that's going to ever happen on Th reads. It's a Meta (Facebook) property which never gave a shit about reverting to that in the last decade.
Meta SHOULD be worried. Nobody seems to like Threads, folks have shut down the dead bird app and left it to the trolls, bots and nuts, and BlueSky is the clear winner of the "where shall we land" sweepstakes. Zuck is joining Elon in the "serious weirdo" world.
Perhaps but they have a lot of moves to make before they trail BSky. For example they have (say) 6months to copy BSky model verbatim. If I were Zuck I'd keep that option in the back pocket.
I went to Threads so I could delete X. I liked the engagement but I hated the automatic integration with FB and IG. And it was so hard to find news and political content. Only been here a day, but it feels like old times. Now to find everyone…
I had a Threads account which I deleted months ago
They permanently banned 2 Grassroots Dem accounts which my husband and I were part of
So I deleted my personal account

The version of decentralization used by threads is nothing like what's here on Bluesky
Yes, it integrates with the Fediverse, but that algorithm still suppresses news and politics
Here you get to decide what you see and Threads can't do that
I finally installed Threads a couple weeks ago, and all my feed is are scam accounts or suggestions for me to follow back my followers.
So, it’s basically Twitterbook
