Even if I don't use them myself, I still have a lot of respect for these older systems. They helped get us to where we are today - a futuristic utopia in which we can have unlimited New Folder icons on our desktop computers

I remember having to chisel information into stone when I was at school. Here are the rules for Ladder Ham as I understood them. You don't see this sort of precision on those new fangled computers.

Why do it on your desktop? This will slow down your PC just refreshing.
I know that today's hardware, make it seem unnoticeable..

But.. do it as subdirectories to your disk.

This basically what you are doing anyway.. in USERS/ directory..

Nah, I put all my files on desktop. Then create subfolder with name like 2024 every year and move stuff from desktop to that folder. Repeat next year.

You could try creating a new folder with an extra space called “New Folder” and create 37 more until you get to “New Folder (37)”. It’s not perfect, but for those without the computing wizardry you possess who are unable to afford a new computer it could be life changing

Both of these are good solutions, but I've found that my computer already copes with this scenario and calls the second folder New Folder (37) (1)

I realised a long time ago that it's not possible to skip numbers on a computer. Whatever it names the folder, you just learn to live with it and move forward with your life.

I like the way the folders are in random order. It reminds me of an advent calendar. Have you thought of putting chocolate in each folder to make opening them even more fun? I'm not a computer expert, but a man of your talents should work out how to do it in no time.
