My kid once wanted Santa to give her a hug while she slept on Christmas eve. To prove he was there I pulled apart a little cotton ball and left it by her bed as a piece of his beard. Now we refer to it as the year Santa had mange.

We would still have a great day if we were real about it, kids love presents.why can't we as parents/grandparents/friends JUDGE if a child was good or bad all year(of course not really judge), and give presents? why this outside story that needs confirmation in the form of an illusion?

Yes, kids don't care about the story glued to getting gifts :)
Even if we said that the devil himself would turn 1 day completely good. The kids would suck that story up! And LIVE it, cause we learn our children 1 ground rule, NEVER LIE! But here we are tellin the kid a lie for years, and then,..:)
