I know a lot of people really hate her for her views. I just feel sorry for her. She has severe mental illness, she spent part of her life institutionalized. I think that the people she has gotten in with now are encouraging her illness, when what she really needs is a great psychiatrist and meds.

I'm bipolar, there are a lot of just off the wall things that I said or did when I was manic and couldn't think straight, that didn't align with my own values. Getting treatment, staying on my meds, those things have helped me me not fly off the handle about crazy shit all the time.

I don't hate her, but I do oppose her. If memory serves, she had a brain injury from a severe car accident she was on when she was a teen that changed her personality. But she didn't seem to really go off the deep end until decades later when she drank the proverbial Kool-Aid.

You may be right about the TBI. I have left frontal lobe damage from a car accident (Nicolas Gage, is the original reference case). If you're too old (less plasticity), or don't do lots of work to improve your impulse control, it's crap for the rest of your life. Mine's still worse than most people.

I read about her brain injury back in the 1990s. I don't think she fell off the deep end until decades later. The injury may have led to being more susceptible to right-wing propaganda, but I don't think it's the direct cause of her current state. I think it's just plain old brainwashing.

I just find it very difficult not to have compassion. When I know that she is not okay as a human being. That she is struggling, that she is probably suffering. That people are using her for their own gain. I certainly wouldn't want that done to me. I don't think it should be done to anyone.

Sometimes the full effect of a TBI isn't realized until many years later. I didn't have aphasia after my accident. I began to have aphasia 20 years later at 40. I do think that her issues have made her much more susceptible to influence, without it, she may have been more likely to have gotten help.
