Not to like toot my own horn but *every time* I bring up tariffs on the radio I define them: "tariffs are taxes American businesses pay to import goods from abroad."
Given all the lies and the fact that many Americans didn't take international economics 101, I encourage others to do this as well.

Or
Tariffs are fees levied by a government in order to discourage domestic purchases of foreign products by increasing the domestic cost to the consumer.
The consumer pays the tariff fees, not the exporting country.
That's the answer you get.
That's how they're supposed to "have fun".
Export tariffs (taxes) are entirely different, and are prohibited by the constitution, Art.1 §9

Tarrifs = business tax.
When F47 says he's gonna levy taxes against a country, he's lying.
A POTUS doesn't levy tarrifs against a country. He is levying taxes against AMERICAN companies who import goods from those countries.
"When we briefed you about tariffs last week, there was a mistake. One of the spreadsheet cells had a minus sign where there was supposed to be a plus sign. Prices for American consumers will go up, not down."

The media missed the mark during the months before the election when they used terms that many (of us) didn't exactly know. Define fascism. Define demagogue. Help a reader/viewer/listener understand the stakes. Don't assume everyone knows.

No time for nuance. 😔
Saying tariffs are a tax *you pay* doesn't fly b/c it's not listed on the receipt.
