A ballot measure to have super-liberal Portland, Oregon start fluoridating its water failed in 2013. Now that the likes of Sec. Brainworm and Speaker Jesus Boy are speaking out against fluoridation I bet a similar measure could now pass here.

Portland, Oregon does not fluoridate its water. Back in 2013 we had a ballot measure to start fluoridation (I created 3D animation and motion graphics for several TV spots in favor of the measure), but it failed. The usual misinformation spooked too many voters.

There's flouride naturally in water. It's not going to hurt you when it's a couple of parts per million.

We have a zero water filter, it removes fluoride to my understanding, our kid's dentist suggested we make sure the kids also drink some non filtered water to help prevent cavities 🦷

Dentists aren’t overjoyed by tooth decay and bad dental hygiene. Thats like saying ER docs are overjoyed by tragedies.

Can you quickly book major oral surgery at any dentist where you are or is there a waiting list? Probably not. Because dentists get enough business WITH fluoride in the water.

Honestly, I doubt it will enrich them that much. Fluoride in water supplies mainly helps poor people who don’t have the luxury of dental care. This will just mean a lot of people have rotten teeth and the health problems (including cardiovascular disease) that often accompanies poor dental health.

I still have a mouth full of filings because of this. My kids took fluoride drops as babies to compensate, and still get “fluoride treatments” when they go to the dentist every 6 months.

Exactly. As a kid who grew up in the 50-60s I have a mouthful of filling (all of which required replacement at some point). My kids and my grandkids so far have never had a cavity

Just FYI: my dentist was charging something like $200 for a fluoride treatment and then I found out that you can buy the same stuff - 5% sodium fluoride varnish - for $35 for 50 individual treatment packs.

My dentist tried to up charge me for a fluoride treatment I didn’t have $175. I had them as a kid before there was fluoride in the water. I remember we all had a bunch of cavities as kids.

Be prudent with the use of fluoride for kids age 0-8. It can damage adult teeth while they’re still forming under the gums (fluorosis). Not so visibly, it can also cause skeletal fluorosis, which might not show symptoms until later in life.
