Wasn't that part of a cartoon variety show that had some M.A.S.H. ripoff called M.U.S.H.? I think it played with Groovie Goolies. There was also a caveman and his mammoth called Wacky and Packy.
Filmation packaged a bunch of their single season shows with the shorts created for "UNCLE CROC'S BLOCK" and put them all in strip syndication as "GROOVIE GOOLIES AND FRIENDS", so that's what you're likely remembering.
Cool McCool only aired on saturday mornings from Sept of '66 to Jan of '67, but it had the best intro theme. I'd still like to hear some band do a cover of it.
I thought about going with that one. My strongest memory from that is the guy with the glasses going into an irrational frenzy when hears the word "banana." Or does he need to see the banana? It's been a while.
there was also a computer that made a mouthful-of-soup-through-a-vocoder noise whenever any button was pushed and i thought that was the funniest thing ever
I have an online friend who's been hunting for the show's soundtrack album for years, to no avail. The closest he's come is a digital copy of the album recorded by the band from "Lancelot Link: Secret Chimp."
