In an open arena the bat has a slight edge. Like 57/43 bat. In a close space the knife has a much higher advantage, like 69/31. I'm still going bat every time though.

it's incredibly difficult to knock somebody unconscious with a bat if they know that's what you are trying to do and all bat strategy goes out the door once you are stabbed.

Bat doesn’t need to knock someone out, all you need to do is stagger them. The range advantage gives you a solid chance at first hit and I feel if you go for upper torso a decent chance they drop the knife and then it’s over for them.

With all due respect, believing that a bat's only utility is to knock someone unconscious is going to get you beat to death by a person with a bat. If I did a 3/4 power swing I could break many bones in your hand or a tear a lot of soft tissue in your joints. Disabling blows must be considered.
