What was said at the time by the powers that be was that if any black player was good enough, they would get a chance.
The amount of time to integrate black players into the game, the amount of racism Jackie Robinson and other black players endured was repugnant. Baseball provides the perfect story that if you provide opportunity, people from minority classes can not only succeed, but flourish.
MLB goes with the MAGA flow, like the NFL scrubbing "End Racism" from the field before the Super Bowl.
