It’s like #abc730 went out of their way not to mention climate change in their feature tonight on the insurance industry - and climate change is at the heart of the issues raised 🤔 #auspol

IF, as predicted tropical cyclone Alfred does severely impact Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Gold Coast & Nthn NSW later this week, likely insurance payout will be significant…and a certainty premiums will rise appreciably…affecting millions of SEQ & Nthn NSW residents.
Climate change has a big price
#abc730 Sara Ferguson anchor, is apparently aligned with anti climate change agenda, pro miners. Also aligned with National Broadcasters policy of pro Israel anti Gaza Palestine. Taboo subject all under heading of ‘balance’. Where does Labor stand on these issues?
Insurance companies are businesses. They’re pricing climate change in their models. People living in high risk areas - floodplains, bushfire zones etc - are starting to discover their properties are uninsurable. It’s a reckoning.
Massive issue in UK. A lot of insurance companies are flat out refusing cover for certain parts of the country, to the point where the govt is considering a nationalised insurance scheme. Like everything else in life, always follow the money
I agree to a point. Friends in elevated areas near us are experiencing very big insurance costs with zero chance of flooding. Ins companies are gouging under the excuse of climate change a bit, too.
Agree 100% & we are victims. The lowest point in my yard is 25 metres above sea level & we are on a shallow ridge. No water runs onto our property but despite that we've had 10%+insurance increases year on year for at least the last decade.
Here in Adelaide, vast amounts of the population live along the coast which will be uninsurable with sea level rise, those living in the foothills will be uninsurable due to risk of fire…remember the ‘83 fires.
Also, airport probably needs to be relocated as it will be underwater one day…

Use of postcodes to identify flood risk, and not flood maps (which are available) in regional Australia is definitely profiteering.

Some of the villages high above Lismore NSW are charged as if they are in the middle of town.
These places are 15+ mins away and 50-60m above high up on a ridge.
But apparently can flood just like Lismore. It makes insurance unaffordable for countless thousands.
