my comic has been a decades-long experiment in watching people hate new characters until a couple years have passed and they're considered a "classic part of the core cast"

I do like how you've basically gone from "Ted but with a robot not a cuddly toy" to a whole soap opera in an alternate universe with artificial and human intelligence all living together. Plus, you've got much better at drawing boobs. 😁
I love all characters, but I also can only remember like 8 people at a time, so every time I'm excited to see a new character that has been around for years.
I have definitely gone from "who is Claire and why is she here?!" to "If Claire gets written off I will riot." Although tbf, since then (at least on my part), I've just started to trust your process.
That’s one of my favorite things about QC - watching an annoying or not terribly likable character grow and change into a better version of themselves. Clinton is my favorite example, but Yay, Claire, Roko… Bubbles. Hannelore. Faye. Thanks for all the great stories and characters over the years.
Look, I still think Pintsize should have kept his original body, making him totally incompatible to be (or incapable of) operating a newer, high end model body.
Everyone else, sure. but fuck Pintsize just because. :D
much like my own life, QC started in 2003 and has a constantly expanding cast that I sometimes struggle to keep track of. Also it got super queer at some point in the 2010s
The way classic characters fade until you realize they’ve been gone for years is a lot like real life has been. After a couple years it would be cool to see Dora check in on Ravyn.
THEM and the horrible dutch goblin are amazing and I love them. THEM took a bit to grow on me, but I loved the terrible little monster since we first met her in her oubliette.
I stopped reading around the time Martin and Dora broke up. Not because I was unhappy with the decision, but because life got in the way. I’ve thought about going back but it seems like a fairly monumental task nowadays. Congratulations to you on running so long!
I envy you for having so many new (to you) QC pages left to read!
If you can somehow fit it in your life, read everything again from the beginning. It's so worth it. :)
There's also "Jeph shouldn't spend too much time bringing back this character, they don't have any more juice" and then you proceed to extract more juice. Steve I think has been juiced three more times than I assumed possible
of course some people just Don't Like a character for whatever reason and nothing I do will change their minds. fortunately this does not actually affect me or the comic (another thing I have learned from doing this for 20+ years)
Did you ever learn to hear the part where people like the comic louder than the part where people complain? I am given to understand this is Dante Must Die difficulty mode.
I blitzed through the comic in a single adhd fueled night and I can't believe it was off my radar this long. Elith is such a fuckin vibe and KimLing has me vibrating
It says something that I've read this comic three times and I am seeing names come up in this thread that I cannot remember. I honestly love that there's such a huge cast, it gives that bewildering sense of scale that I love.
One thing I love and respect about your work is your willingness to go wherever the muse takes you. You’re not afraid to try new things and shake things up. A lessor artist would have played it safe. So don’t stop!
And my reaction to reading this was, “Wait, which one’s Liz? Oh, right.” It took me a second to flip through my mental Rolodex of recently introduced QC characters, where “recent” means “within the last twelve years or so”.
It occurred to me that if we ever see an Avengers: Endgame-like storyline, where you fill all panels with a sea of long-lost characters like a QC-verse Where Is Waldo, we'll know you are about to wrap up the gig.
I'd say the only character I actually hate was purposely written to be hated, and that's Corpse Witch. Even then, I sometimes wonder what's going on with her, and if she can be rehabilitated...

"Goddamn it, we'll get him to listen on the next one, I'm sure of it!"
No, wait, I am wrong. Sven. Although I did ultimately appreciate his redemption arc.

me, checking when that was: WHAT THE FUCK I WAS READING FOR 4 YEARS BEFORE THAT HAPPENED??
Hi, Liz.
