2D vs. 3D game development,
1 more dimension, literally and unironically 10 times more work.

*imports good-looking 3D assets in the engine* - looks like poop, lemme turn dials on a thousand different things to try and fix it :')

For example, if you have a mini game that takes place zoomed into a set piece, in 2D it’s basically brand new assets. In 3D you just move the camera.
There’s also a big difference between drawn 2D and pixel art.
For me saying one is 10x more work than another doesn’t make sense. imo 2d in its forms has a lower barrier to entry (we’ve all drawn on paper!) whereas 3D requires more training just to get something workable.
You defo have a good point with the barrier to entry. On my personal journey 3D has been giving me faster more appealing results but I'm sure this is entirely different from person to person.
When I played in 3D it took me ages to get to where I could bring my characters to life, but once i was there I could rapidly iterate, and was able to reuse so much!
I find pixel art much more start-stop, repeat. Can be more tricky to reuse
They’re just two different work flows!
