BlueSky has already dealt with the bot issue, by coming up with block lists that you can subscribe to. I’ve subscribed to a large number of these and so I almost never see bots.
Not easily solvable, even in the best of times. Robust blocking helps; but this isn't just teenager trolling; it's information warfare. We're under assault by bad actors with the financial & technical support of nation-states. And it's only going to get worse before it gets better.
Disinfo isn't just distribution of flawed info. Anything that disrupts intelligent conversation & communication (like trolls on soc media) benefits our Nation's enemies. They will drive wedges into organizations (LGBTQ+ & the Trans community); foment distrust (Democrats and Progressives).

And our enemies don't even have to work that hard. They use the people who are already there - like swatters & trolls - to do the dirty work for them. Useful fools who don't realize their groups (like 4Chan) are being encouraged and supported by people with ulterior motives.

Our society is fractured; we're fighting each other. We're not focused on who the enemy is and how they are really attacking us. And now, unfortunately, they have people on the *inside* who can take the attacks to the next level. From disrupting society to destroying government.

To be clear; sex work should not be demonized. It's the 'botification' of sex on soc med that's bad. It's helped destroy Twitter before Musk delivered the killing blow. That & the constant gaming and 'monitization' of soc med that contributed to its downfall - that BS seems to have avoided.
If you follow @squirrelturd.bsky.social - and apply his block lists, you will encounter significantly less bots. His lists are completely vetted - he is extraordinarily careful about who he adds to lists.
I mean I will say that my immediate reaction to this was “wow we’re still so so so far from equality, but it does seem like significant progress female journalists get bots too.”
A few MAGAs sneak on here now and then to try and shit post, but they don't get the reaction from people they want here, so it doesn't last long. I've seen two bots so far, but I've only been on here consistently since the inauguration.
Good point. I just thought they could actually give us the ability like filter out things like zero followers zero posts things like that cuz oftentimes that seems to be the level that we're looking at.
I leave the conversation and block them right away. I finally had to change the settings to follow only. It's annoying, but manageable if you don't have that many followers.
Yeah, the thing is that DMs can be a really important channel for potential sources (if Ryan’s anything like me, “hey I need to talk” is sufficient to get my Signal info so we can move to a more secure channel). I don’t need that professionally anymore but I don’t wanna shut it down.
I am really impressed how well trained everyone on here is to not engage. I’ll be reading comments and suddenly an “eat shit libtard” is there and it’s been there for like 4 hours and absolutely no one has acknowledged it.
I've hit that list for some reason. it's not a big deal because I'm not going to need to DM the OP (I don't think, I have no story to tell him about) but it's irritating to me.

I know nation-states are involved in disinfo but what do they gain from annoying bots mostly posing as sex workers?
