When using Artificial Intelligence to decide life & death? When you deny 80% of doctor ordered care? When you have more employees than there are doctors in US? When assuming 99.08% of patients will not appeal? You might be responsible for 10,000s of deaths & suffering every year. US can do better.
I mean, the original is actually "Thou shalt not murder", and you could try to argue about all that, but if you want to be serious about this go for "Thou shalt not commit usury". You'll just run into the teensy problem that Christianity and capitalism as a whole are entirely incompatible.
Are you saying an extra fraction of a percentage point of profit is worth of someone’s life that is trying to collect on a service in which they already paid?
Please clarify your position, I may have misunderstood.
But the root of that problem is the public don't vote in support of universal health care; rather overwhelmingly support politicians who prioritise profit over the public wellbeing (the ones who cut taxes and thus reduce services)
U.S. health insurers made billions in profits: UnitedHealth $22.4B (2023), CVS $8.3B, Elevance $6.0B, Cigna $5.2B, Centene $2.7B, Humana $2.5B. While families struggle, profits soar. When did health care lose its humanity?
Isn't that also in the hyppcratic oath ? The AMA & INSURANCE COMPANIES
are in sync . They both have huge lobbies in DC. It is all about money. Our health
is not their priority. It is business . Welcome to America.
This is religious based and as we have seen it doesn’t mean anything to corrupt, greedy fraudulent people and companies. What we need are laws (ethic based-no loopholes) to actually protect people!
I would say maybe don't blame individuals for society's failings. The majority of voters of the USA want health care run as a private, for-profit business, and have given Republicans control of every branch of government to make sure of it. They're ultimately responsible, not some random CEOs.
I’m not so sure. Their job as businessmen is to maximize profit. That’s what they’re trained to do. Indeed, they may have ethical and even legal responsibilities to their shareholders to do so. They’re cogs in a machine conservative, Republican voters have constructed and enthusiastically endorse.
they do not have an ethical responsibility to let people go untreated, they have an ethical responsibility to treat people, independent of the law. it is not exclusively or primarily an individual failing but it absolutely is one
I can see why one might say so, but maybe we can agree to disagree. Doctors, I think, have an ethical responsibility to treat people. Businesspeople, in our economic system, have an ethical responsibility to maximize profit, as allowed under law. They're not public servants. They have a job to do.
To me, it's an attempted evasion of personal responsibility on the part of voters who support that system of private, for-profit health care, to try to blame random CEOs. And for voters who don't support it, it's misplaced moral indignation that should really be addressed to their fellow voters.
I tried telling this to my dad, and he disagrees. I don't want to put him in a negative light, as he is a very nice man and has recently gotten a root canal cuz he chipped his tooth, but how can I get him to understand that major companies need to clean up their act and care about the little guys?
No, that’s not at all an accurate translation nor is it a realistic description of what is happening.
There are major problems in our medical system. But it’s not the case that some adjuster decides who lives and dies… it’s what treatment is covered or not.
* unless you cherrypick a reason from your religion... or there's profit to be had... or power... or suppression needed... or someone said you can... or...
While I understand the ongoing desire to try to convert the Republican #BibleNationalists, this would have been better as: "Getting rich off of mass murder via health and medical schemes is worse than murdering the mass murderer."
newer translations lose the nuance. older ones said “thou shalt not murder” where murder meant an unjustified killing. where the killing was justified it was translated as “slay”
so you shouldn’t kill if it’s not justified. seems pretty justified to me
Good point. An imperfect self-defense claim, an “excusable” killing is to prevent loss of life to others.
If you know an arson has burned down 2 nursing homes, poured gas around a third, and is about to light the match…
Writing a sternly worded letter won’t cut it…Chuck Schumer 🤨
i hate to use the bible for anything but the bible was actually very clear on this once upon a time and dipshits have twisted its meaning to their own means EVEN FURTHER than it already was
Going to the Old Testament to support a strict "no killin' innocent bystanders" policy is a futile act. For all you know, Amalekites could be the ancient Hebrew term for "loyal health insurance customers." Lord knows they ended up on the wrong end of God's commandments.
Shortchanging the workers to m maximize profits is also in violation of the "Thou shalt not covet your neighbor's property" commandment. The pay the workers are owed for the time and energy they spend at work is their property.
Funny how the evangelicals going on about how abortion is murder, to the point that you should let women who need abortions die, are fine with all the people dying so rich people can become richer. In short, healthcare for profit is evil.
Oh, and Matt 5:42 "Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away." But I'm sure I'm taking it horribly out of context.
I don't understand why Healthcare is so expensive. I can stay in a hotel for $200 a night but a hospital room that I share with someone else is like $5000 a night.
There are many mechanisms used to kill - denying medical assistance, over prescription of drugs, hypothermia, starvation, deliberate infection of the vulnerable, denial of access to vaccines etc.
The CEO's of these companies are responsible for more "legal" killings in this country because of their policies. They are lauded as great business people ONLY because they make these companies tons of money.
Stalin once said something like “one death is a tragedy. A million deaths is a statistic” and it’s crazy how in line with that health insurance company executives are.
Thou shalt not kill should have a line added to it "Thou shalt not kill by proxy" just because someone doesn't hold a gun to someone's head their decisions are made with the execution skills of a 17th century guillotine expert.
In before I touch grass that bends a certain direction that causes a bug to miss that grass and instead flies up to someone's neck which makes that person react and causes a person driving by to look at them which causes them to slow down a little bit, just in time to miss a truck driver looking...
Only in America is economic murder accepted and rewarded! If you want to know the quality of health care your insurance will provide; look up how much the CEO and higher administrative staff are paid! Their bonuses are based on how much they save the company by saying NO!
I was brought up religious, and I really think the amount of Christians who need this concept spelling out is not a small part of why I questioned my faith and no longer believe in gods
B.S. The focus on profit can conflict with the primary goal of patient-centered care, as companies prioritize shareholder returns over patient needs... But murder is not justified. The system has to change. Luigi's family appears to been in the same profit driven business.
Don’t quote me, as I’m not Jewish, but I think I heard the original wording was more like “thou shalt not commit murder”? After all, the Old Testament actually gives a number of scenarios where they tell you to kill. So, I’m just gonna stick with my belief that religion is more bad than good
Actually the proper translation is,"thou shalt not murder." Self defense is allowed but what Trump and his band have in mind is probably far from self-defense. After all they want to prosecute people for doing their jobs. The age old message of the dictator.
Remember when conservatives were stewing in their manufactured outrage about ACA “death panels.” In reality, the provision involved voluntary end-of-life counseling to help create living wills. Now, it is apparent that the insurance companies have had their death decrees & delegations all along.

The name has the mission statement in it!
The original Hebrew word is apparently in reference to a killing that isn't "justified".
Please clarify your position, I may have misunderstood.
And rationing your business services in line with policy guidelines probably doesn't either.
This only matters morally if you care what the Old Testament says. Which I do not.
No one wants their life to be removed by another. Through any action (pen OR/AND sword).
The rule to following is Do No Harm through action/inaction.
No other gods before me. No making idols. No saying the lords name in vain. And keeping the Sabbath.
Another one is about obeying your parents.
Who wrote that nonsense? Ever seen the price of eggs?
Friggin' commies, those old writers.

It's baffling how the industry has gone this long without such regulation.

...By extending the commandment to more or less this (Matt 5:21-26)
1) walk up to a person and kill them with a gun = murder
2) deny healthcare knowing the person will die = just business
I know of no reason the CEO’s treason should ever be forgot.
Basically.
