Until 1961, "marshmallow" Peeps were produced by soaking baby chicks in lye for six months until the bones gelatinized, rinsing them in an alcohol bath, and then lightly dusting them with confectioner's sugar. You can still get the original formula Peeps at their factory warehouse in Tulsa
