Tbf, Trump was an isolationist then (on "saw no value in defence alliances or American hegemonic order" grounds), and is an interventionist now (on "thinks American empire is cool actually" and "my brainworms tell me to" grounds).
My point being that he's wildly erratic, and doesn't seem to hold any particular position on strategic things like "what is America's place in the world", and so concepts like "isolationist/interventionist", "dove/hawk" doesn't mean much - it's all just a tangle of brainworms in there.
Arguably, the "America first" thing is consistent with withdrawing from Europe and annexing Canada, but then completely random shit like "let's own Gaza" comes up. Anyway - brainworms.
I'm not immediately aware of who she is, and even I think she deserves to be confronted with this article immediately upon waking for every remaining day of her life.
Not just since 1984; Clinton and Trump were, for most of that campaign, the 2 most disliked major-party presidential candidates in the history of polling.
I don't ever think that. My step mother worked with her. She was compassionate, off the chain smart, hard working and we didn't give a damn about "emails" Especially NOT in the face of this madman.
Yeah, I know a lot of people who know her, and one who worked closely with her. They all think she's brilliant and incredibly kind. I've never seen anyone who knows her *not* light up when they talk about her.
She stayed in contact over the years with all five teachers and their families. People do not know the good she has done because the GOP went on a two decade long hate campaign.
She helped 5 young teachers get their masters degree and then go further. My step mom was a grade one teacher in an inner city elementary school as were the other four women. They went on to train other teachers all over the world after becoming a professors of education. She is GOOD people.
That's awesome! Your step mom sounds pretty great, too. I'm thinking of how many lives may have been made better by that one action, helping those 5 young teachers.
Yes, it was. Those innercity schools were in horrible shape and she would come there no announcement with boxes of winter coats and school supplies too. Just show up and do the work and then make a plan to help further. She told those teachers "You can do so much more. I will help you." AND SHE DID.
Also, while I love everything, Bernie Sanders stands for, everytime he posts I think, "what would the world look like now if you hadn't vilified Hillary?"
In times like these I think Maureen Dowd should take great comfort in the fact that that there are people who have written more idiotic opinions. So while she is undoubtedly one of the stupidest columnists of modern times, she isn’t quite the stupidest.
It’s really interesting, he’s like a bogart onto whom people project their deepest desires. Those who know he’s a bogart are accused of Trump derangement syndrome.
The random thing that gets me- Jake Tapper on inauguration day with: "It's important to point out that the Trump/Vance campaign in 2024 was a very disciplined campaign ... within the realm of normalcy." Motherfucker, the guy ended a campaign event and danced in place onstage for 30 fucking minutes
Well, I guess he was told to stfu, and for once he did. So that qualifies as discipline, I guess? Now, talking abt Arnold Palmer’s dick? That was about as “disciplined” as the time he talked about sharks and underwater batteries. 🪫
when they’re handing out medals at the White House for the acolytes who did most to usher in American fascism, the NYT op ed writers will be front of the queue
True but this article was 8 years ago when ppl believed the 30-year propaganda war they waged against the Clintons, so she could say bonkers shit without it being called bonkers shit.
So many of these stupid arguments rely on “the lying liar who has lied about everything for thirty years is not lying about things he will do in the job he needs people to vote for him in order to get”
Yah. There was a lot of that too. Chuck Todd negative review of Hillary after debate was ‘she came off as too prepared’ . Not that Donald exposed he is uninformed and not intelligent. Nope, just Hillary bashing.
Thank you.
And it was sandwiched between a year of unrelenting and baseless attacks on her by Dowd.
(Apparently no NYT editors thought to restrain her; they were fine with her writing the same jejune (her favorite adjective) columns week after week in 2016!
That was written during the 2016 Dem primaries, when Dems could have made a better choice. Clinton was widely despised; losing a lot of voters was always baked into making her the candidate.

Now they got Donald the Dove. I can't wait to see them again.
(Not sarchasm)
But true.
But it absolutely blows my mind that the people of this country made this thing their president.
I just reread that. Now I have to apologize for my word choice.

Very different semantics of action

He is setting us up for immediate targets.
