I got into an argument with my US History teacher back in high school about American exceptionalism and how anyone could possibly think that the US was “better” or “more free” than most countries.

Her argument boiled down to “we did democracy first” and that tipped me off to the American Kool-Aid

over and over i am begging the US to learn lessons from latin american history and politics when trying to remove tyrants from power, as well as studying *why* they rise to power.

this requires a degree of humility that i dearly hope enough people in the US can find in themselves.
