They were definitely roasted almonds. I often eat breakfast out there and put raw almonds on my fruit and yogurt. I put out my breakfast tray one morning, went back inside for a second, then came back to find an almond on the tray. I ate it, thinking I'd spilled an almond, but it was roasted.
